So, reluctantly, I have to accept change is inevitable.

I find the prospect of change exciting.

I can't wait to see the continuing demise of such stupid spellings as through, though and tough (which are slowly and, IMO, rightly changing to thru, tho and tuff)

Long may it continue!

One of my staff handed in her notice and HR won't let me hire a replacement.

We've just got to "make do". Yeah, OK. It's not like we haven't already had our staff numbers cut back so much that someone chucking a sickie prevents us from running a full service! Frikkin morons.

The guy beside me eats with his gob open. This is when he isn't breathing like a serial killer :x

I've actually asked him to close his mouth repeatedly, and it's got to the point where I've said it in front of others while he was there, making a joke of it. They've even mentioned it to him and he still continues

Seriously? I have to take out a hot work permit to run a flash point test in the mud lab?
It's in a mud lab for christ sake. I'm mean it's a good job you don't know what temperature the retort runs at in there or you'd probably want a hot work permit for every single mud check!
Six years I've been doing this job and I've never known a rig insist on that before.

I've been off sick for 3 and a bit days but because we're shut now until Monday it means they want a doctors note.
By the time I get an appointment for this done I'll be right as rain.
What a waste of time and money

Lame-ass band members who've lost interest but won't admit it.

Our guitarist has been less than enthusiastic for no apparent reason at rehearsals for the last month or so. It all came to a head this week...

We were supposed to be playing a gig in Birmingham tonight, and because our new drummer isn't fully up to speed with enough songs for a headlining set we needed to get some serious rehearsals in before hand. Two weeks before the gig and we're trying to organise 3 evenings of practices and then she tells us she can't do any that week at all. Finally with a lot of back and forth getting everyone's availability and our singer having swap shifts at work we organise rehearsals for Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

Half an hour before we're due to start on Tuesday our guitarist phones up the singer saying she's too stressed out and tired to come to the rehearsal. Bearing in mind that she lives over 45 minutes away from where we practice, this means that even if she can be persuaded to make an appearance she's going to be late cutting into our valuable time. Also at this point we'll have to pay for the time booked in the room whether or not we use it. Singer who has spent considerable time trying to sort this out is understandably annoyed and tells her if she doesn't come to this rehearsal not to bother coming to any others...

So instead of having fun playing a gig that has take us a fair bit of effort to get, in front of a good number of fans who'll have travelled especially to see us, plus getting paid a decent amount and selling some more CDs and T shirts, our singer has spent to last 2 days trying to find a suitable replacement band to do the gig, making sure that everyone we know who was planning to come and see us is aware that we are not playing, and is now travelling to Birmingham at his own expense to apologise to the promotor and hopefully get us a replacement date, while I have been busy posting guitarist wanted ads on various music web sites...

We now also have to decide what to do about the recent recordings we've made as well as cover artwork that features our ex-guitarist that was due for release at the end of April.

Not happy...

You know radio DJs chosen for/putting on a deep, 'sexy' voice? That's especially annoying in a young, Irish accent.

Following on from my FPOTD post. I wish I hadn't said I'd work today. I'm in for one day before leaving to go on holiday. Most of the stuff I needed to get done before I went away is done, and the rest is waiting on people who aren't going to help progress it today.

Usually an easy day in the office would be no trouble but it's particularly frustrating when I've got other things I want to get done outside of work before we go away and it's annoying me that I feel like my time's being wasted just sitting here.

Adding to my irritating morning, my manager decided to directly address one of my staff about something he needed done on Friday that should've been done already and "get it done right now". He didn't say a word to me. What's everyone's thoughts on this? IMO he should at least give me a courtesy "this is what needs to be done" so I can manage it after he's walked in and walked out again.

If you're the individuals line manager then common courtesy says it should have come through you. Whatever the job is msy be important but if you'd already scheduled work for that person then pulling them off it would need to be accommodated into the rest of the work.

My thoughts exactly which is why it annoyed me a bit. Oh well, didn't see my manager for the rest of the day so I was left to prioritise jobs anyway.

Not a smoker in the house, and I'd rather not use matches ;)
