In the past two weeks, I've read six Jack Reacher novels and am now on my seventh.

Will post up reviews in a bit when I get my laptop out of storage. Read One Shot first and then went to beginning and started at Killing Floor.

I also read Bill Bryson's Lost Continent and Notes from a Large Island.

What prompted you to read them all at once?

I watched Jack Reacher and was advised to read One Shot, upon which it was based. When I watched the film, I felt like I was missing a huge chunk of something and it was only when I read the book that I got a feel for the character and understood it. I then went back to the first one and was basically hooked.

Lee Child manages to take two or three threads and twists them together. You become intrigued as to jos they add up. By the time I was on the third book, I started to try and work out plausible scenarios. I like the style and the character's thinking. All of them had unnecessary waffle at some point in the storyline but so far it seems to have been reduced in the Echo one.

When I read, I tend to do it in huge chunks at a time so I might not read for a few years and then devour a whole load of reading. Situation at the time helped since I've been away for a while.

Good to see another Jack Reacher fan. You might like Michael Connelly and John Connolly too. Although Reacher really is a one off. Shame you saw the film before reading the books. I still haven't plucked up the courage to watch it as I'm still disgusted by the casting.

The film's not too bad but I probably wouldn't watch it knowing what I know now. There's so much disservice to the book but some bits are understandable. Converting One Shot means cutting out scenes and rewriting things. But for me, some things needed to be in the film and weren't or not properly/faithfully done. I need to go back to the film and compare again but don't want to.

When I read One Shot, I still had Tom Cruise in my mind and it didn't work. I tried to picture Ray Stevenson but for some reason I think Thomas Jane worked better in my head though he doesn't have "bulk".

When I read the books I don't have anyone in mind. I can picture Reacher's body, hair cut and his blue eyes but I've never really put a face to him. It is a shame you had Cruise in your head as he's nothing like him. If I did have to pick someone Ray Stevenson has always been my favourite. He's currently in Dexter and plays a real baddie in that. He's certainly got the physical presence for the role. What was Lee Child thinking when he agreed to Cruise? The mind boggles.

The problem was my mind automatically linked scenes to the film so people like Emerson were as portrayed in the film. What didn't help was he was on book covers including the kindle one. I agree that since following the books, I've not been able to visualise him like I did with the other characters. Ray Stevenson, then Thomas Jane. Now the person who fits most is the Swede character in Heartbreak Ridge.

I'm on the latest Fey In The Grey. Not sure what I'll do when I've finished. Feel like part of the family now.

Favourite character anyone?

Apart from Alex, Raz and Troy have made an impact. Want to know more about The Mister, Mammy and Tom Drayson.

Amongst God knows how many The Week magazines I'm slowly finishing, I'm reading a bunch of Kindle samples again. It's amazing how far out of your 'comfort zone' you go as a result of them

Classic, I'm trying to catch up from last November, it's like going ever so slightly back in time.

I'm currently working my way through the Ringworld series and the Mote series from Larry Niven and Gerry Pournelle

Give the sample a go; I dunno if it reads so well cos I recognise the setting and situations, but I usually don't go in for ghost stories, so...

Bought the 4th Carl Mørck thriller from Jussi Adler Olsen today, as well as "Dr. Sri and his dead" from Colin Cottrell and "The Spy who came in from the cold" from John LeCarre.
