That is how all of them work over here, except T-Mobile.

Does that mean the phone isn't locked to the network?

I doubt it somehow.

That sounds like a really good idea. In principle. I would be more like to go with O2. The only thing that stops me is poor O2 signal at my workplace. I can get 3G on orange whereas I couldn't get anything on O2.

02 3G coverage is abysmal. It's the only regret I have about going to giffgaff.

It looks like adding loads of flexibility for customers. The only thing that I would prefer is unlimited data, and the option to pick and mix elements of this contract., such as fewer texts and minutes though with the option for unlimited data.

I can do without unlimited data.
What I'd like is HPSA/3G coverage everywhere rather than GPRS in most remote places.

I suspect that you will have to pay the balance on the phone account, not counting call time and then it will be free to be sold etc, but you will still be liable for the balance of the call contract. You could buy another handset, and use the sim with that new phone instead, without having to tie yourself to a new 2 year contract.

Actually though if you ave already done a year and there is nothing outstanding on the phone why should you be forced to stay for another year under contract?

Yes I would like the security of knowing that I am not going to get hammered with data charges if I go over my limit.

In three years I've only come close to using my limit once. When I say close, I mean I used 75%.

I have probably used more this month as I have been streaming TV and radio a lot more.
