+1. Nolan's Batman IMO does not fit in a world of superheroes.
I don't think having a silly party trick like Superman saving Batman out of the Bat when it explodes is good enough explanation.

I was expecting Smiths to dry up by now, in which case I’d be waiting for the market stall to produce them in a year or so. Still, no let up - and no doubt there will be another one in a week or so’s time. The only problem I have is with the way the models are fixed to the base. They are screwed in really, really tightly (I bet there’s some adhesive helping - or the screws are elf-tapping and have bitten a bit too hard). Infact they are so tight that you can wreck the Philips slot very easily. The screw metal is very soft, and it just gives way under any kind of pressure. I had to use a Dremel to grind a new slot on the screw head so I could undo it for the most recent one. My concern is that I’ll wreck the base or the car taking them out. Once the photo is done, they are put back as they were, but the screws are not tightened up as much.

Obviously there will be a collectors market for some of them but I guess that the collectors will never open the boxes.

Never really considered the phallic aspect when watching the show TBH. You don't ever see it from the required angle I suspect. The design just fits very well with the retro/Dick Tracy kind of vibe they were going for.

I've not seen that series. I like the way you describe it, but the car does look pretty naff out of context! Great pictures as always though

I never really watched B:TAS and I don't know why. Does the canopy open on the Batmobile?
