TBF, you'd look less of a dick wearing those than wearing the other ones.

Overenthusiastic Glass review.

I was watching an investment analyst saying similar things. Though somehow I am yet to be convinced. The potential could be immense but think of all those other devices that are no longer around like net books. If I do adopt it will only be after a long review process.

Netbooks didn't disappear. They evolved. We now have little laptops and big tablets with keyboards.

I think sales of netbooks have plummeted, but have they evolved? The HP Envy could be described as both. Though I do not think that it is doing particularly well, despite the amount of advertising I see for it.

My point is, people didn't stop buying little computers. There are more little computers now than ever before, to the level where they now outnumber desktops. The fact that most of these are cheap tablets and little laptops rather than actually being branded as "netbooks" is quite arbitrary. The netbook revolution was just an early step in the evolution of portable computing for the masses.

I'm sure Glass will evolve in some way because it enables things that people want to do. I don't know how, but ten years from now a lot of people will be able to do clever stuff without reaching into their handbag for a piece of hardware first.

I think that it is tablets and smartphones that are replacing computers including laptops. Whether Google Glass will be part of this is another matter. It is innovative but the privacy implications are immense. It will evolve, but for me I just don't see how it will be indispensable. Between my iPhone and iPad, I can do quite a lot already.
