As recounted elsewhere, I seem to have started out on a new career. I've become a professional modelmaker.

I know John V offered his services to create the site, which I am grateful for, but having been "in the business" for so long I felt I ought to be able to do it myself. It's not a complicated site, just some pictures and words.

I'd appreciate any feedback - knowing a lot of you aren't in the market for that kind of service. Comments about the design, errors I've made, things I should put in, anything gratefully received.

:)

A Boulton Paul Defiant! I had one in my collection, in my youth.

I can offer nothing but best wishes, Heather, and I hope this venture is a great success - I'm ever so slightly jealous. :)

Like the website Heather :)

I hope it takes off for you as I know how much you love it. Maybe onwards and slightly upwards now?

Ah, that'd be the venerable Airfix one that dates from the 1950s. Wrong in almost every dimension, but until about five years ago the only sensible kit available. Now the Czechs have cornered the market in 72nd scale, at least. I can't tell whether the "new" Airfix version is a new tool or not.

Let's hope so. 2013 has got off to a better start than 2012 did, that's for certain. :)

Congrats on your new venture.

RE: website

I quite like the colour scheme and layout. The only thing that bugs me is the menu system TBH. It initially looked like a site map type of things and I've come to dislike it. Would much prefer "buttons". The more I visit the site, the more it grows on me but it still grates at some level. Might be down to personal preference. Also might want to put Home at the beginning, and you could have a contact button which brings up a contact form (in preference to firing up an email program).

I absolutely love the gallery (and not just the content). Is there a way to keep the back/forwards arrows fixed so I don't have to keep chasing it? Much prefer the mouse to stay in one place and I can just click through the photos.

Fantastic, Heather - and great to see no Flash content anywhere (but then I would expect nothing less from you!) ;)
Hope this little venture turns into a money spinner for you - always nice to earn money from something you actually enjoy doing.

I have an aversion to forms. They are a complete pain in the butt to set up, so I have avoided them since my first efforts in the late 1990s.

Okay on the Home being at the wrong end. The nav bar started life on the right hand side, and I forgot to rearrange the text when I moved it! Added to the revisions list. On a larger site, buttons or a proper menu system would be better, but with only four pages it might be overkill. Besides, currently, all the text is HTML, the only graphics on the site being the photos.

I know what you mean. Best Beloved didn't like the way the image sizes kept changing, but there's not much I can do about that considering the subject matter. It's not immediately obvious that you can click just off centre in each image to navigate: click off to the right to go forward, off to the left to go back. I'll keep the slideshow form under review. I might find a better layout eventually.

Thanks!

Heather for PM!
It hasn't been said in a long time, thought I'd break that particular drought. (8+)

Great news, Hev!
I'll check out the site later (off to work very soon) and get back to you.
Very encouraging news to hear though.
Dead chuffed for you.

Mark

Congratulations. I particularly like the finish it for me idea. Maybe you should put a meta tag for that so search engines find it.

Looks great :D

Content is gorgeous, easy to navigate and it's responsive (as in it responds quickly). It also plays well on my phone and tablet at different widths.

It lacks the las vegas appeal of the rich animated gif and spinning text found in more memorable GeoCities but... :P

The Site is relatively clean and simple. I like it.

All the best.

Thanks everyone!

I've had some excellent feedback from a hobby forum, which I plan on rolling into Phase 2. They also uncovered a bug that affects a specific version of IE8. Hopefully I have a fix for that.

So far, everyone has been very encouraging about the way things are going round here. I hope I can make a go of it. :)
