Well they will need to start on iOS 7 soon.

As long as the OS is secure then there should be no issue what phone is used.

I see they only seem to report half the story, the US Military announced that Samsung Knox and BlackBerry OS 10 were approved, not Android in general.

Yes and I read elsewhere that iOS will be approved within a couple of weeks. Though I am surprised that Windows phone is not in their either. Since they are probably all based on secure operating systems then they could all be suitable, in which case this is really not news.
