I really don't understand the flat pack frustration. I think of it as Lego only less playful.

Same here. I never needed the instructions to put anything together from IKEA. You only really need a picture to see what the end result should look like as a guide.

The title slightly over plays what they can actually do.
They can build a single specific, very simple item of flat pack furniture.

True but I think that it is a start. As they are programable they could gradually be programmed to do the entire range. Then you could get the situation where by you buy your flat packs and a then you hire a bunch of robots to fix them together. then the only thing to do left is put them where you want and return the robots.

Furniture has to be flat pack to fit up our stairs. (they turn twice) I couldn't even fit a wardrobe up them when we moved in.

I only needed them on my chair to know which bolts to use at the front of the seat because they were different lenghts and both fit in the holes due to size + length

Aw, don't say that. It diminishes my feeling of smug satisfaction on successfully completing a build I was also very adept at programming my VCR, and I'm a dab hand at assembling toys at Christmas. Once I master the hieroglyphs on my washing machine I'm going to apply for a job at Stargate Command.

I bet they like watching John Wayne films when Rimmer's not looking.

I agree, but I never start screwing things together until I know where every screw goes for just that reason. It also helps to check that the screw is not too long for the position that you think it is for. Unscrewing it and starting again does not help it maintain rigidity.

With shot knees and a bad back, putting Ikea furniture together isn't hard, it is just incredibly painful...

So would you like to rent a pair of robots that could assemble for you? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk.
