What a loss to the world that would be.

Agreed but many serial killers are still alive in the prison system already.

Minimum of 38 years. Now that's what I call a proper sentence.

With his age it amounts to a life sentence, but it also pushes back the time for him even being eligible for parole. Though if this was an accident like he claimed why didn't he just call the ambulance? Deaths and accidents happen.

Another low-life we would be better off hanging - save us a fortune too.

I think that after all the appeals it would probably be more expensive. That is definitely the case in the US. At least he is off the streets.

Why would there be appeals in this case?
He pleaded guilty

You can appeal the sentence as well as the verdict.

Plus, would he have pleaded guilty if he thought he might face death? It's not a natural thing to do.

If there were a death penalty would he have pleaded guilty? Probably not. Under our current rules he can get a shorter sentence if he pleaded guilty. Though the judge probably made sure that even with minimum tariffs he spends as much time behind bars.

+1

I particularly like the use of the word "minimum".

I believe he should be incarcerated alongside Ian Huntley, Robert Black and Mick Philpott...... and then all 4 should "inadvertently" be sent for exercise when the rest of the prisioners are out. I still believe there's honour among thieves and I'm sure the others would quickly exact correct punishment.

Yes but they are probably all segregated from the general prison population anyway. The chances of that happening are close to zero. While I can appreciate many would like to see these people dead, there are always miscarriages of justice and at least these people are off the streets. The death penalty is never a deterrent as they never expect to get caught.

Once dead they will never commit any crime.
