'We swear by almighty Allah we will never stop fighting you': What man holding bloody cleaver said after 'hacking soldier in Help For Heroes T-shirt to death just yards from Woolwich barracks'

B@st@rds. Why are they being treated in hospital? Should have let them die in the street.

I was just watching the ITV ten o clock news. They went to the break saying "we'll be back soon to give you more as this story develops".

Errr.. What? There are no more 'develops'. The story is done. It's happened. Two nutters killed a bloke, the police shot them. Nothing will change from this point until the two blokes are well enough to be charged, which is probably days away. What's going to happen in the next two minutes? Absolutely feck all.

Sorry, I realise this is a serious, tragic story. But the way the media have reacted to it with almost macabre glee has turned my stomach almost as much as the act itself.

The comments section on The Mail's pages about this are.... enlightening.

The 'watershed' certainly doesn't seem to exist any more...

Yes they are annoying from their own actions. I feel sorry for the poor soldier who died who may never have been overseas yet died because of something that the government has made the army do.

Without wanting to get too political (that's a discussion we can have, but I'd say it's for another time) given what I've seen reported about the two blokes, whatever the UK government has or has not been doing is pretty much only an excuse for two idiots to engage in a random and senseless act of violence. If it wasn't that, it would be some other grievance they feel they had with some faceless part of the world at large, which they felt justified in rebelling against by killing someone who just happened to stray within arm's reach.

It was a soldier and knives. If not, it probably would have been someone in some other 'gang' with some other weapon. Religion, politics, whatever. It's just something they use as an excuse to make somebody else pay for their own inadequacies and failings.

I totally agree. It could just as easily been anyone else and for whatever pathetic reason. No matter what their reasoning it is wrong. I suspect that these were groomed by some group to spread terror more easily.

More media tomfoolery. I was listening to the radio on the way into work and the station had a reporter in Woolwich talking to local people to get their reaction to it.

The presenter handed over to her with "So <whatever her name was>, what is the feeling in Woolwich this morning?"

Her response was - and this is a direct quote -

"Well <whatever the presenter's name was>, people are very cut up about it"

what's the audio equivalent of a /facepalm?

As someone noted on Twitter thismorning, EDF’s time line is a bit of a mess.

Tangentially, I remember every time football referee Chris Foy had a bad game, olympic cyclist sir Chris Hoy used to get a load of abuse on twitter.

Murdered soldier named

The two men shot yesterday were apparently 'known to the security services'. Two further suspects arrested.

Well I doubt that the police will have any problems justifying the shootings in this instance. It clearly shows the men running at the police car with their knives.
