Random question but as I know there are a number of smokers on here so seems relevant.

Anyone else moved away from analogs and started vaping instead?

I have tried a few but they never seem to replace totally the smoking experience. Blu, njoy and intelligig are a few of the better ones.

blu's are tasteless tat who are actually owned by a tobacco company.

The other 2 look like overpriced 510 models.

I'm currently using a couple of mech mods & an ego variable voltage one. Much better experience and cheaper as well (the blu's etc hold 1ml of liquid and cost £2 a cart, I pay less than £10 for 30ml of liquid)

Considering nearly all the models from all the smaller companies are made in the same few factories. The wonders of chinas ip bandit zone. With next to no control on quality.

You are probably safer with using a brand that is owned by a tobacco company. They have much more to lose and are under greater scrutiny by the anti-tobacco lobby. Thats why a few of the tobacco companies are making e-cigs to comply with medicinal product regulations because the anti lobby are trying to make the whole sector conform to. Something the small companies are fighting against because they cant meet those restrictions.

Do they do anything for you? I mean, do they satisfy the nicotine craving?

I went cold turkey four months ago today. I haven't caved in, but there have been a couple of times recently when I've come close, so I'm wondering if they are really worthwhile. My instinct tells me that, this far along, it might actually be a step backwards.

It will be a step backward. If youve been nic free this long then its all psychological. Dont give in!!!!

I've tried quite hard with one. I'll updated this post when I find the packet, because I can't lay my hands on them right now. The reason I chose the brand was because a friend recommended it. He's been using it for about a year now, and is constantly sucking on it every time I see him.

It did absolutely nothing for me, didn't relieve the craving at all even with the strongest cartridge. What it does do is make me choke and give me a sore throat.

I've often wondered about the safety. There is no approval system I'm aware of and they're banned in many countries. For all I know, I could be sucking down burned plastic. That's pretty much what it feels like.

I haven't touched an analog since the 2nd of Jan and the thought of smoking one turns my stomach so I'd say they do work.
Since I swapped from the cig-a-likes to a proper vaping unit it's soooo much better.

JJ- either you got a dry hit from a bad cart (you can tell by a burnt plastic smell flavour the liquid has run out and it's burning the filler.

You also need to smoke them a bit like a cigar (inhale to the mouth then take it to the lungs), if not you'll feel a burning in your lungs.

I'm currently alternating 5 or 6 different flavours (a lot of them UK made) and may well start mixing my own.

Unlikely. I bought 4 packs of different flavours, and they all have the same effect.

As to "like a cigar" - that's how I smoke a normal rolly; let it roll around my tongue and enjoy the unique blend before inhaling the cool satisfaction.

With an actual cigar, I usually only inhale maybe once for the entire thing or else I turn green! Plenty of nicotine absorbs directly into my face. Lips usually go numb if it's a big one, and I end up dribbling as if I've been to the dentist. Which is attractive.

Did you up your water intake to compensate for the effects of PG/VG (they absorb water)? or you could be allergic/sensitive to just PG

What's PG/VG ? Sounds like a corner shop that bans unaccompanied children.

I had similar problems with the vapour inhaler thing. I take it they use different chemicals to those produced naturally then?

PG (propylene glycol), VG (vegetable glycerin)

Both are in a variety of foodstuffs and used in medicines etc

Some people are more sensitive to PG than others.

If you’re a smoker looking to make the switch to electronic cigarettes, you’re probably curious about what you’ll be putting into your lungs instead of that dreadful tobacco smoke. Unfortunately, vaping terminology can be a bit confusing at first, so in this article I’m going to try and explain the differences between the two most widely used e-liquid bases: propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG).E-liquids contain four ingredients: a PG or VG base, nicotine, water and flavorings. The base, or carrier, holds the nicotine and flavor in suspension so your e-cigarette can produce those nice clouds of smoke-like vapor. Both propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin are non-toxic organic compounds and generally considered safe for consumption. In fact, they are widely used as food additives in a variety of commercially available products.First, let’s talk about PG-based e-liquid, because it’s the most popular of the two. Due to the fact that propylene glycol is relatively thin in consistency, this kind of e-liquid is runnier than the VG variety, and is more easily absorbed by the polyfill fabric inside the cartomizer. The low density of the juice also means that gunk doesn’t build up on the heating element of your e-cigarette as fast as it does when thicker vegetable glycerin liquid is used. Propylene glycol is a tasteless odorless substance, so it doesn’t alter the flavor of the e-liquid in any way. It’s also a powerful humectant, so while it will dry your mouth and throat if used consistently, PG also produces a stronger throat hit, similar to that of tobacco cigarettes. On the down side, propylene glycol is known to cause allergic reactions in some e-cig users. These can vary from minor reactions, like a tingling sensation in the throat, to serious irritations on various parts of the body. If you experience any unusual symptoms after vaping PG e-liquid, it’s best to stop using it immediately and switch to vegetable glycerin.Vegetable glycerin is a considerably thicker solution, compared to propylene glycol. On its own, VG has a slight sweet taste which also makes the e-liquid sweeter and the flavors a little difficult to detect. While PG is know to give users a dry mouth, some vapers have complained about phlegm building up in their throat after suing vegetable glycerin-based juices. You also get less of a throat hit when using VG. On the upside, because of its high consistency, VG e-liquids produce significantly more vapor and doesn’t cause allergic reactions or irritations as often as propylene glycol. It’s fair to say the vaping community is evenly divided when it comes to e-liquid preference. Some enjoy the smoking-like throat hit of vaping propylene glycol juices, while others prefer the thick plumes of vapor and the sweet taste of vegetable glycerin. It’s hard to say which one of the two is the best, because it ultimately comes down to personal preference. I’d suggest you start with a PG e-liquid, especially if you’re looking for an experience close to smoking, and try out a VG juice along the way, just to see what you’re missing out on. To get the best of both worlds, many vapers prefer a PG/VG mix, in different amounts.  This way, they get a decent throat hit as well as pillowy clouds of thick vapor.

I'm a vaper and have been for a few months. More information to follow when I get back from the shops and have had a chance to read the whole thread.

Edit to add:

I tried the 10 Motives e-cigs at the beginning of the year, and used them for a month or so. I then switched to the Ego-T and later got a Viva Nova nebuliser to go with it. I use the Cigar flavour 18mg liquid, an aside from one cigar, which I found in my car on the first of February, (the tin was hiding under the drivers seat, and there was no way I was going to throw it away!) I haven't had a cigar since starting on the e-cigs.

I am going to look into buying some new kit at the end of the week, as I lost my charger, but found that I could charge the ego-t batteries using the charger that came with the 10 Motives... only problem is that it worked for a while but now both batteries are knackered, so I''m having to the the 10M's again, which aren't as good.

I have compromised by using the 10M batteries with the Viva Nova, but they need to be charged more often which is a pain.

Anyway, long story short - After 30 years of smoking, I haven't had a cigar all year, (aside from that one!) and I'm doing OK.

Simon, any suggestions for a new model?

Further update: Went out this afternoon and bought the VIP Photon Tank Kit. My £35 got me a battery, two clearomizers a charger and a little bottle of liquid.

I charged the battery and decided to use it with my Viva Nova, and so far I am impressed. Nice vape and tastes better than it did with the weedy 10 Motives battery.
