But that's all been cleared up now; it was only (malicious?) idle speculation that there would be a real "block". You'll have to register the second hand game on-line but it won't cost you anything. You can also play your games on a friend's box by logging in.

I guess "all that bullsh!t we made up turned out to be wrong" doesn't make for good headlines.

There's still a lot to be confirmed though, like what sort of deal MS did with the retailers, if any. For instance

http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/121271- ... -retailers

If MS had the wit they could sort this out right now, and it's probably about to engulf Sony too. But I suspect both are testing the waters.

I personally wouldn't touch a system that involved nonsense like that on principle. I won't be surprised if it ends up getting investigated by the EU either

Id place a nice bet that what was wriiten in that article turns out to be a mixture of a half truth and a total lie.

But that's all been cleared up now;

Ha. OK.

They are almost inevitably going to put some form of recharge mechanism on second hand games. This is about the only thing the various explanations seem to agree on. You can term that a 'block' or not as you prefer. How the charge works is apparently yet to be finalised. It may very well be Sony are going to do so too but have kept quiet and allowed MS to take all the stick.

We will know the lay of the land possibly after E3, definitely by launch (whenever that might be). Right now? It's as confused as a Scotsman at a salad bar.

I'd delay any purchasing decisions until the product is actually available. I expect we'll have something unambiguous from Microsoft by then.

Saying "I won't buy one because of the rumours, even though MS have stated they are incorrect" is premature.

Of course, there's absolutely nothing to say MS won't completely change the rules once there's a One in every living room...

Yes but the addition of a recharge for secondhand games could kill that market completely. I get slightly more than half of my games second hand, if they are going to charge an additional fee to allow me to play an old game and that fee could make it as expensive as a new game why would I buy a second hand game? For those that regularly sell their games that will significantly impact the revenue that they can funnel back into new games. A lot of kids resell games on a regular basis. This will hit them very hard and will lead to significant sales losses to them. The old system of

PS I never sell games so will not be impacted in that way.

Which is probably why MS keep repeating that there will be no such charge.

We will see once it is released. Until then we have to give them the benefit of doubt. I will definitely not be an early adopter with this overhanging users.

PS4 games required to support Vita Remote Play

UPDATE: Sony confirms only games requiring specific hardware will be exempt

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/40 ... mote-play/

I can't imagine I'd bother with that even if I did own a Vita :|

I do, and I can see the value in it as a freebie. Will also depend on whether it's feasible over the internets though of course. I can't imagine you'll be able to play 'twitch' games that way, but for 'non real time' stuff like strat games it may work.

If you already have a vita then it could be a real plus. Though that might also boost sales of vita's.

I just need a box that plays games and plays blu-rays. Anything else is quite frankly OTT and not going to be used by me.
