[With iPlayer the BBC can simply make the download unreadable after the due date.

There are a number of apps that will allow you to download programmes from iPlayer without any DRM restrictions. Given we're all required to pay the licence fee, I personally have no moral problems with that, provided they aren't distributed outside the UK.

Well the BBC does limit what overseas IP addresses can access, so even if the apps are available outside the UK the latest feeds is not.

Yeah, I can never get iPlayer offshore. All the rigs seem to send their coms data via satelite to America.

But the upside is that you can stream US shows or apps from the US iTunes store.

Wipe VHS tapes after thirty days?
You'd better tell my dad, he's still got about a hundred with things recorded off the TV in the 1980's.

Lots of people did it because there was no chance of getting caught, and many people think it's legal anyway. It should be obvious that it's no more legal than taping songs off the radio.

I had a stack of them too, but I gave them to my parents. Sadly, they couldn't play them because their brand new deck couldn't handle the long play and hi-fi stereo sound.

My god I'd forgotten about long play

I knew there was some sort of legality around it, didn't know it was 30 days. Didn't care either

I knew of the limit but like everyone else ignored it.

K7 always makes me chuckle. I'd use the abbreviation myself, but it doesn't work here.

I remember trying to find a particular model of in-car tape deck on eBay, but it was impossible. It was the Panasonic K7
