Xbox One - £600?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00BE4O ... w_g63_ir02

Then again it's amazon so the price will probably come down towards release.

I wonder how many mugs will buy one at these prices?

Probably none. The PS4 is priced the same. The price will go down towards release date and people only get charged once t ships.

Indeed. Prices will be announced at E3 in a couple of weeks. Up until then any price is literally guesswork.

It is also probably moot as many retailers have a price comparison pledge so will sell at the same price as elsewhere online. That has happened with lots of music I have purchased. Paid one price and eventually pay a lower price on launch day. This is probably so that they have it within their stock control systems.

As there is no product issue it looks like it is a recall so they can upgrade them for relaunching as a new product launch approaches. Though why not warn retailers and allow them to discount them prior to a new launch?

Microsoft has finally confirmed that Xbox fans' worst fears are at least partially true: Although the new Xbox One gaming console won't need an always-on internet connection, that connection had better be on pretty often or you can forget about gaming. And don't assume you'll be able to sell or trade your old games, either.

"With Xbox One, we are planning for a connected future," the Xbox team explained in a blog post on Thursday.

What that means is that while offline gaming is technically possible with the Xbox One – as an earlier leaked memo suggested it would be – it will only actually work as long as the console is able to phone home at least once per day.

Official Clarification
Some of those details have definitely changed compared to statements made at the reveal.

Well very similar to the terms above. It looks like they do not understand the games market. Lets see what Sony are going to do. If they follow a similar policy then I will not be getting another console.

If I'm reading that right, MS aren't making any money out of it at any stage :? . So what's the point of setting up a ridiculous authentication system for friends games?

The only thing I can think of is the 'install, shelve disc' issue. Mind you, I am sat here in work, brain-fried...

Eurogamer editor Tom Bramwell's view

pretty much agree with his conclusion - the benefits aren't worth the cost and it's MS putting their own interests over their customer's.

Especially love the bit about them still figuring out loans and rentals. Sony could totally steal the crown back here, but I suspect the FAIL fleet is prepping for launch as I type...

You do not own the games you buy. You license them

Wasn't this what they tried to do for music? What happened to that in the end?

It's like buying a car and then being told you can only drive it on certain roads at certain times and if you let someone else drive (albeit insured), you need to have known them for a month and they can only drive for an hour. If you want to sell the car, the manufacturer may add in a charge.

If that happened, you can be sure very few if any would buy. I'm aware Ferrari have been trying to do something like this for some of their vehicles (to maintain prestige) but it's not something the likes of VW would ever try.
