I agree with this, and this is how I use the ones on my phone. It may be on for the duration of the journey, but it's usually the last couple of miles that I need to start paying real attention to it. I'd also say that nothing beats a good look at a map before setting off, AND it's well worth scouting the destination on Google Street View as well.

I quite agree. I've used a post-it note on the dash board before too, usually when I'm in a hire car with no map or sat-nav. Just to note the roads/waypoints to I don't have to remember unfamiliar road numbers.

I do that, because there will always be signs to a town, rather than road numbers. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk.

Exactly. I use the satnav maybe twice a year on average. My old car had one built in and I rarely used it, so when I got the new car, I wasn't willing to pay the extra. The other thing is how expensive the maps are on manufacturer supplied systems, Ford want around 300 quid for updates, I think Audi is nearer 500.

I used my iPhone maps feature to find my way to an aviation museum only last month. Could not find signs for it, but was able to zoom in on the maps and find the museum that way and then guide the driver that way. We would never have found it without the iPhone.

I agree (ish) although the other time is when it a strange city and looking for some streets - (although I guess yu could call that the last mile) - it means you can concentrate on not hitting pedestrians rather than trying to look at the street signs as you drive past

Because of my contract, I get Tues and Thurs PM off. As a result I like to spend the time relaxing, thinking about non-work stuff etc. The downside is my family are now aware of it and increasingly using me to do stuff for them. Complete PITA. Lil sister needs to pick up a dress from home and then wants me to drop her off at home. In rush hour traffic. I did this once and it took me 90 mins to do what was a 4-5 mile return journey. What's wrong with the bus or taxi?

I have now. It just takes the mick. I enjoy the downtime because it destresses me. Being stuck in traffic stresses me out. Worse still, why didn't she arrange for me to drop it off to her? I go past her house on the way home from work so could easily drop it off tomorrow evening, say.

Friends you can choose, family you're stuck with My Dad has my number listed under "Computer Helpdesk"! Just once it would be nice for him to phone and say "How you doing" instead of using a thousand words to say "I've effed my computer up - again"
