Yes but the alternatives could be multiple subscriptions to each game. As someone who never plays multiplayer it is not an issue for me. Though it will either be paid for by you some way or another, ads or subs? Take your pick. I am not against subscriptions depending on the cost and perceived value to the user.

It's been free on the PS3, if you paid you got decent games on Plus at least until the end of your sub or kept whatever you bought cheaper. Game trials and save backup too. Xbox Live is just a bad joke... Sony would need to be offering streaming of older games at least alongside the above if they're gonna start charging for something that used to be free . Maybe an authentication process for what you already own.

If you're not a multiplayer er.. player PS+ does give you (or at least long term loan you) a lot of other stuff. At least one full-price game per month, which you may or may not already have played, plus a couple of other games lower down the scale. Plus 1GB of cloud storage, which is quite a lot for console game saves. You only need one or two of those 12 full price games to be 'ones you liked the look of but never got around to buying' for you to effectively have got your value out of it.
How much of the extra stuff - auto updates, cloud storage etc - will come as standard on the PS4 without PS+ we don't yet know, but they've already announced a version of the PS4 game DriveClub will be free to PS+'ers from launch.

Ubisoft CEO undecided on Xbox One pre-owned stance http://www.computerandvideogames.com/41 ... ed-stance/MS takes a kicking over it, Sony of all people turns it into a joke, and Nintendo are pretty much irrelevant... but he's still undecided even though he admits that people trade games to buy new ones

Sony confirms PS4 pre-owned DRM is 'up to third parties' http://www.computerandvideogames.com/41 ... d-parties/If even EA aren't touching it and MS have had to backpeddle somewhat, they deserve everything they get for trying to implement it.

Actually that makes it better value. I have not bought a PS3 and if they include some older PS3 and PS4 games some time after launch then I would be quite interested simply for the older games even without the multiplayer features. As you said a good game could be worth it on its own of the entire subscription.

Still does not hint as to how they will decide.

MS has two titles that were generating interest... So what did they do? http://www.computerandvideogames.com/41 ... e-to-play/The people who spend £430 are early adopters but that doesn't make them thick ffs

Free to play and DLC makes sense for some. It could end up more expensive long term but if you buy more DLC with normal games it can be much the same.
If the game is crap you might not spend a penny.

What they're doing there is crap from the get-go no matter how much they're charging afterwards. I mean they haven't even made it properly enticing to start with, never mind fleecing you down the line Did MS steal a fleet of boats only to find they all previously belonged to Sony?

If the game is crap from the start will players spend anything on DLC? If the game is really good they might get a slice of revenue from DLC, though possibly not. It is a numbers game. If they get loads of users they could get 10% to buy content but because the numbers playing are far higher than normal for a paid game it could mean higher revenue overall. If the game is rubbish they will get a rapid fall off in users so will not get the chance to make money from it. Though I do agree that MS have launched a magnificent fail fleet. I do see the PS4 doing much better than the Xbox this time around. It also solves the problem of second hand games from a publishers perspective.

Sony: PS4 multiplayer fee 'will fund improvements' http://www.computerandvideogames.com/41 ... rovements/It would need to, you probably spent a fortune on making PSN WORSE recently We still need more details, but I can't think why MP gameplay should require being part of a subscription all of a sudden. Short of the 'Upload a video that even your friends barely care about!' BS. I resent it the more I think about it
