To use the Mancunian slang... Djokovic might be sick but Murray's mint!

That final game was incredible. Great result and a fantastic achievement.
After all those years cheering on the likes of Bates and Henman, we finally have a British Wimbledon Champion! Brilliant!

Male. Don't forget Virginia Wade was women's champion back in the 1970s.

Indeed. Strange confluence of numbers over it all. Wade won in '77. Murray won after 77 years, on 7/7. Bloody good on him. He did himself, his family, his backup team and his nation (whichever of the two you consider that to be) proud. And, given that's his second major win, he can now definitely claim to be 'the real deal', not at all a 'could be'. He's won two majors and an Olympic gold medal in the same (in effect) year, he's got a very good claim to actually be the best in the world at what he does, regardless of exactly what the world rankings say. Lions thump the Aussies at rugby, Murray wins at Wimbledon, Ashes start on Wednesday. Football? You can keep it.

And while he might not be a great interviewee, as it turns out, he's a rather good bloke.

BBC still running it as 'breaking news' on the news channel . Well, it's fair, there are tribesmen in the gobi desert who might not have heard yet...

I think that they are more interested in the Gobi Desert Challenge or Camel Polo.

And singles. We've had numerous Brits form at least one half of the various doubles champions in the years since Perry won.

Didn't Andy Murray's brother win a double's title a couple of years back? That must have made for an interesting sibling dynamic before yesterday.

Quoting half a line, does a great job of removing context. I was clearly talking about the men's singles

Apart from Bates and Henman there's no clear intimation of gender. Besides, as others have pointed out, men's doubles champions 2012 were British. It's a media thing, drumming up the "waiting since Fred Perry" meme, conveniently forgetting the other Wimbledon champs this country has provided since. Corrections are all over the Twitters.

Agreed. Inverdale always reminded me of the embarrassing lecherous uncle who tries to chat up a bridesmaid half his age at a family wedding. No class at all.
