The film reviewer on Radio 1 this morning in the same breath recommended everyone watch Clueless and then said Donny Darko was boring, at which point I turned off the radio and focussed on my breathing techniques sat in silence until I arrived at work.

Was it Claudia Winkleman?

Clueless is fun.

Anyway - this evening I went and saw Pacific Rim.

And I really enjoyed it.
Well paced, the usual action movie cliches in places (Rule #1 - if you're ever setting off on a dangerous mission, and you're a second string character, never make a heartfelt goodbye to a loved one), but it's really good fun.
This isn't a film that uses beautiful sequences of nature and a Zimmerman score to convey a sense or beauty or make us ponder what it is to have a place in existence, this is a film about giant robots fighting giant monsters.
Worth seeing.
I saw it in 2D, but the 3D is available, of course.
8/10

The only thing I remember about Clueless is Alicia in a leather miniskirt and her dad being the dictator-type from Commando

You clearly missed all the dialogue. It also had the lovely Stacey Dash, who is still lovely today.

I thought I'd watch The Hobbit tonight, far too boring though, got 40 minutes in and realised I just didn't care.

Ninja Turtles 3 - actually worse than I remember it, I wouldn't be surprised if the script was written on the set... Certainly looks that way from the actors expressions, even the turtles lol.

I watched the trailer out of curiosity - even for a film as bad as this the trailer was still put together with more nous than you see today!

Cool. This is the one film this year I want to see on the big screen.

Went to see World's end at midnight last night.
It is quite disconcerting, it's scifi and comedy and typical Edgar Wright.
Not sure if I like it yet.

Conan the Barbarian

Avoid at all costs. Mamoa is no Conan. There is no ferocity or raw energy. I don't fear him nor envy him. He just looks silly. There's a young Conan who manages to slay some enemies so I had hoped adult Conan would be better. No idea who choreographed his fight scenes but they were after "cool" rather than "realistic" and failed on both fronts. There's lots of "gore" but I'm amazed at the number of times Conan slashes an enemy with his sword only for it to remain clean despite blood spraying everywhere.

I'm also amazed at how easy it is for passive people to kill experienced/skilled warriors.

The visuals were disappointing and lacked any punch. There were some scenes that should have been awe-inspiring but looked crap.

Very little in the way of storyline, dialogue, acting or fighting ability. Avoid unless it's 2am and you have insomnia and it's on TV.

It'll be interesting to see what it's like. I'm not a huge fan of Shaun Of The Dead, but I really liked Hot Fuzz. So this one could go either way.

The Real McCoy - 90's movie starring lovely Kim Basinger as a high-tech bank robber, it's also got a ridiculously young-looking Val Kilmer and Terry Stamp being villainous as usual. The script isn't embarrassing considering how cliched the plot is, the action's good and everything's snappy :)
