I thought Ploughman's didn't have meat in it? Or at least all the "ploughman's" sandwiches I've ever seen have cheese, pickle and salad.

The ploughman's lunch was a creation of the Cheese Marketing Board.

Down here it's lunchtime and then dinner in the evening. Some of the oldtimers on the island call it "Nammet", which was originally called Noon meat - a cold midday meal consisting of bread cheese and meat.

AKA Ploughman's Lunch?

That was my first assumption, when I heard it, but apparently not. Similar, but not the same.

This puts a different slant on it "School meal kills 20"
Quote:
At least 20 children have died and dozens more have fallen sick after eating a tainted school meal

Yes I know I'm selectively quoting

In theory it could happen here, though highly unlikely. Has anyone heard of a major outbreak within the UK or even Europe?

There was a outbreak of salmonella or e-coli (can't remember which) a few years ago in Wales I believe.

Yep - it was known as dinner time, not lunchtime, but that was a carry over from a time gone by. Our meal after school/work was always called "Tea".

Was? Still is were I live.
