The Met Office has upgraded its heatwave warning in parts of the UK, as temperatures are set to rise above 30C (86F).

It said they could reach "Level 3 heat-health watch criteria" in London and the South East, requiring healthcare services to help high-risk groups.

It is oppressive. I’ve been lucky - I can hide from the worst of it in the house, but that’s meant that I’ve not been out of the house since Saturday.

I am planning on a quiet day in doors. The sea is like a mill pond today as well.

When I went to bed last night, my flat was at 29C. It was unbearable. A couple of years ago it got to 35C

I think we are lucky. We have a house built out of concrete and insulated curtains. Those have helped make a cool room for me, though if I have to do work that requires more than my laptop can offer (it is old, cranky and frankly needs to go and "live on a farm" as far as being useful for work goes), I have to sit upstairs in my office with a window open where it is hotter than I’d like.

Keep drinking those cold drinks - water or fruit juice is the advice.

Had orchestra practice last night at local school and the heat was unbearable.

The drinks break (mid-way through) lasted longer than normal!

Still 27C when I got home (just before 9pm)

Supposed to be playing footie tonight but already pulled-out of that.

We insulated the loft at the end of last year. We had temperatures in the bedroom approaching 40°C last year I our bedroom. This year, they have peaked at 26°C.

Bavaria had the worst extremes, with -40 in winter and over +40 in summer. We generally get a few days over 35 here in a normal summer. But most of the time it stays below 30.

New flat is well insulated so that's good.
However Sunday I'm meant to spend most of the day outside on the champs elysees. I think I need to procure a hat.

I am lucky I get the sun in the morning but not so much in the afternoon. So the place starts to cool in the afternoon.

We get the sun from dawn 'til dusk. The back is East facing, the front West facing and we live on the south side of a hill, just before it turns into a plain.

I can go one better, I live next to a cafe with a Mr Softee ice-cream machine. 8-) Just had a 99 while reading my email.

With my health, I tend to struggle with warm temps - I can run around in the snow in T-shirt and shorts and feel fine. As it gets warmer and warmer, I get more irritable.

Probably not as much as me. Imagine how most people feel right now in the heat and that's how I'd normally feel in winter. So you can imagine how I feel now in this heat. :(
