+1 Personally, I’m not a good passenger. I do tend to hit the invisible brake pedal if the driver is not responding in the way that I would. Also, I find it hard to do things like reading when in a car, so the notion that “I could be doing work” when travelling is bunk. I’d turn up feeling pretty nauseous. I’m OK if I am not having to focus on close object or am driving.

Given the way a lot of people drive in London (especially Private Hire Vehicles) this can't come soon enough.

They'll be hacked, and people will end up in ditches.

I think it is the feeling of not being in control. Being dependent on the skills of the person next to you can be unnerving if you have concerns about the other persons driving.

To be honest, there's not actually much you can do in car seat in terms of work unless you're in the back of a fairly large car (basically something like a 7 series BMW). You definitely can't do much more than reading a piece of A4 in the front seat of any car. They may be called laptops but actually using one on your lap in a moving vehicle is a pretty frustrating experience.
If you're talking doing anything even vaguely complicated, you'd have to redesign driverless cars to not be laid out internally the way a current car is. Have something like the front seats facing backwards and a table in between, a bit like the table seats on a train.

Then you could do some work, though for longer journeys with the exception of the cost the railways offer a decent opportunity to work and relax now, even being able to walk up and down the coach if necessary.

But if you had a driver's car. Then you wouldn't need for seats facing forwards like in the current configuration. Cars could be built internally to allow for much more flexibility so that you could hold a meeting or include a desk or anything like that inside the car whilst it is being driven.

Depends on whether you want to spend time facing other people. It'd be a bit more cramped than in a train.

I suppose I would find it really difficult to be a passenger in a driverless car. Do I trust the system in my and other cars? how would it react in an emergency etc.
I must be getting old I guess.

I think it all depends on what the OS is. I doubt that the insurers or authorities would allow anything that would be problematic. Insurers have a vested interest in lower claims so would not insure vehicles where there could be problems. If they can get past that I would have no problems.

Can't wait for driverless cars. As much as I love driving, this is definitely the future.
Also, driverless trains please!
