How did they not see that joke when they tried to confirm the names.
I've got to feel sorry for Boeing. The first passenger fatality on a 777 and it wasn't even the plane's fault (or so the evidence so far suggests).

Apparently they rang the NTSB for confirmation and got a summer intern. He confirmed the names.

That's my point. How can you not hear the joke when you say the names out loud, as you would on a phone call.

It was probably sent by fax or email.

To be fair, that model has been in service for over 35 years. I'm no Boeing apologist, but until the investigation is complete, this could be down to a tyre problem or poor servicing and maintenance on the part of the airline - given the tight margins they have to live, that isn't too far fetched...

Na, there'd never be that many there. They all out and about trying to stop 787's spontaniously combusting.

Glad I booked with Virgin Atlantic now instead of Delta re. Boston Trip as Delta use the 737 whereas VA use the Airbus

Airbus A320 series have had their nose gear issues too. I'd still take the A320 over a 737. Slightly wider seats, especially on the front few rows where 737's start to narrow the cabin width.

Generally aircraft are still significantly safer per passenger mile than almost any other form of transport. The bigger factor is the airline you are flying on rather than the aircraft. Many airlines are slowly replacing older aircraft with more efficient new models.
