If they ask, I'll say I don't particularly want porn but I don't want you useless feckers deciding what I can and cannot see either.

Exactly It will be what else will they define as porn. It could be the UKIP manifesto one day, or what they do not want us to see.

Have a read at the updated article, the ignorance of the internet is staggering

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-23401076

And I read elsewhere that CEOP will be getting GCHQ help... I'd have no problem with that if David Cameron didn't think he was in charge of, oooh, China or somewhere

This is cameron after brownie points (and votes) from the daily mail crowd (who imo should all be shot on sight). If you want to "protect" children, let's look at the promotion of sexualisation first. Tops emblazoned with "jailbait" and "pornstar" IMO is not appropriate for children especially when some are as young as 10. Let's tackle the issue of sexual content on tv that gets aired before 9pm. Let's talk about parents leaving their kids with unsupervised and unrestricted access to unsuitable material - and i'm not just talking about porn here.

This smacks of the ill thought out concept of speed cameras - punish those who go 1mph over but don't do anything about idiots who can't drive.

Strangely enough the Mail reader comments are running at about 95% against Cameron's action. So much so in fact, that a few people have suggested that Cameron is a worse Prime Minister than Blair!

Well he is. The fact that the Daily Mail readership is starting to think that must be worrying him, though considering how out of touch he is I doubt he even cares.

Hardly surprising. The Mail website is notorious for showing off 15 year olds in skimpy outfits along with leery sub-Sun commentry.

I under stand the aim. Hard core users will know how to get violent/illegal images, but maybe, just maybe making a bit harder for people to start searching for that sort of thing, may just put them off.

That's the aim.

I doubt it will work. The popluation at large are much smarter than politicians when it comes to computers and the internet.

This small ISP has this as their “active choice”:

Quote:
The government wants us to offer filtering as an option, so we offer an active choice when you sign up, you choose one of two options:-

Unfiltered Internet access - no filtering of any content within the A&A network - you are responsible for any filtering in your own network, or
Censored Internet access - restricted access to unpublished government mandated filter list (plus Daily Mail web site) - but still cannot guarantee kids don't access porn.
If you choose censored you are advised: Sorry, for a censored internet you will have to pick a different ISP or move to North Korea. Our services are all unfiltered.

Is that a good enough active choice for you Mr Cameron?

One can only hope that Virgin Media show that level of guts.

+1 that was a pretty clear opt out, though most people need to put the family PC somewhere in a family area to stop the spawn accessing porn.

I do agree. I have seen baby grows with inappropriate phrases on. There are far more damaging influences on children but they are legitimate businesses. No hint of the authorities going after any retailer for the sexualisation of children. Also an ex complained about the content of magazines aimed at teen girls. Her solution was to stop her daughters buying them, but her daughters friends would get them. Online porn is barely scratching at the problems that families have to deal with to protect their kids.
