F**cking bosses.
Had an argument with one this morning about a sarcastic unhelpful response he sent me to an email with a chat twist for information.
Had an argument with a different one about my holidays five minutes later. Apparently they're incapable of dealing with holidays and I should have reminded them I had some coming up.

We're in the same position in work. They rarely seem to do the phone cover they set up either

Inability to cover staff absence is a way of life these days - everything's been cut to the bone and most staff are doing much more than they were originally employed to do.

I'm going to be off work over the month end, for the first time in three years, and I'm actually sitting here considering taking my laptop with me; Just in case I have to log in to sort out a problem on the 31st.

How sad is that?

Don't.

You're entitled to a holiday.

Don't

I switch everything off when on holiday - the most I sometimes do is on the evening before I go back to work I might dig out (to recharge) the blackberry and go through the e-mails just to delete the internal spam

A few of my colleagues have my personal mobile number should they really need me but I might get one call *shrugs*

I emailed one of the HR ladies recently asking if she was in. I got an away message back saying she was on holiday then she replied to the email herself from Greece! Silly woman.

Genuinely received this email today in response to a job application...
Quote:
Hi Steve,

Thank you very much for your application in response to our ad. Having looked through your cv, we feel that you're a bit too experienced for the role we're currently looking to fill.

Thank you once again for your interest.
Best regards...

So, apparently, having too much experience is a negative now? WFT? I was willing to work for the pittance they were offering, bringing over 18 years experience to the role (they advertised for someone with "at least 5 years experience" - well, I have at least that, and more!). I think the least I deserved was an interview, but I didn't even get to the shortlist!

Wow, you just can't believe the thinking process of these people, can you?!!
Oh well, let's chalk it up to, erm, experience!
:P

My sister's had that problem and it's really annoying - either she has too much experience or not enough. I personally think it's a polite way of fudging you off eg they might want a girl or someone who's younger and they can't discriminate so they have "alternative" explanations.

Yeah, you could be right, but just wish people were honest if that's the case.
The reason p1ssed me off so I wrote back a tongue-in-cheek reply...

Hi,

Thank you for letting me know.

I must admit, I thought having plenty of experience can only be a good thing,
but do please bear me in mind in the future should you require a designer with
oodles of talent and experience in your team.

Thank you for taking the time to inform me of your decision
and I wish you the very best of luck filling the position.

Best regards...

Too subtle?
:P

They can't. If they said "oh we want a girl" or "we wanted someone younger", you could successfully sue them for discrimination and potentially even get the job. Then you'd be working in an environment where you had screwed everyone over, everyone would be hostile to you and you'd be either victimised out of the job or dismissed the moment you make the slightest slip up.

They were concerned that you would not stay with the company when things improve in the economy. That you would leave at the first opportunity.

Either that or the guy is terrified you'll end up taking his job.

I have had that situation. Either way you lose out.

In my experience you're lucky to have had any sort of notification at all.
Pretty much every job I've applied for has had the 'if you haven't heard within x weeks you've been unsucessful'. If you phone back to get some feedback you just get fobbed off with generic garbage anyway.
All very dispiriting.

[LIFTED] tax credits renewal phone system! :x

5 minutes listening to unskippable [LIFTED], and THEN they tell me they can't deal with my call, and abruptly cut me off; all without ever speaking to human being.
