TechRadar was the first place to get its hands on the new Now TV Box - a super-low-cost Smart TV box that gives you a range of internet television services for just under £10.

For that money you get access to a host of catchup and streaming TV services, including the ever-popular BBC iPlayer, Sky News, BBC News and Demand 5, as well as the option of watching NOW TV services from Sky if you want to fork out for a day or month pass.

Worth it for iPlayer alone.

No, those just look cool.

Would both of these be banned from anywhere with zero tolerance such as airports or public buildings or schools?

Don't really see the point when you could probably do everything more accurately with the usual methods :? :|

Who in their right mind...

Well someone who lacks electricity. There are cheaper ice cream making machines than that.

we have an ice cream machine, and believe me - what it makes is far, far superior to that you can buy in the shops. My last concoction was lime flavour.

True, but all the ones I've seen rely on having a freezer available at some point, usually to cool the vessel the ice cream is churned in beforehand. I haven't seen any that use the ice/salt combination beloved of beer drinking barbequers before though. That's a great idea, however putting it in a ball you throw around to churn it is a gimmick. Make it a tub, add a battery powered paddle to it and you've still got perfectly good ice cream without available powered cooling, and also without the risk of having a load of half-frozen produce deposited on the floor.

Well, I've had some pretty good ice cream from specialist shops but home made is always better than supermarket IMO, even 'brand' bought in a supermarket. Lime flavour is interesting though - how did you stop the flavour ingredient from curdling the 'custard' part?

I have a Kenwood one which requires the bowl to be frozen before churning. I have not got around to attempting to make some, I need to make space in the freezer first.

i based it in ingredient that used creme fraiche as a base with milk to dilute it. I was working on the logic that went along the lines of "if you can make lime cheesecake..." I expect the vigorous whisking helped too.
