So, what happened to "do no harm"? When did we abandon the Hippocratic Oath? :?:

Oh that is so 5th Century BC!

The authorities should resort to criminal action against the boards of NHS trusts as well. They are the ones who set the standards of the trust. Send a few of them to gaol and bar them for life from any public office and that will clean up trusts. If doctors have problems they need to report the problems up the chain of command.

Have you actually read the Hippocratic Oath? Here's some excerpts:

Quote:
I swear by Apollo, the healer, Asclepius, Hygieia, and Panacea, and I take to witness all the gods, all the goddesses

So you have to believe in mythical beings.

Quote:
To consider dear to me, as my parents, him who taught me this art; to live in common with him and, if necessary, to share my goods with him

Quote:
I will impart a knowledge of this art to my own sons, and to my teacher's sons

Basically you have to teach your children to be doctors, and teach your teacher's sons, as well as uphold your teacher. In the olden days of 1-on-1 teaching, this might've been fine but is entirely inappropriate and impractical these days.

Quote:
I will give no deadly medicine to any one if asked, nor suggest any such counsel

Can't give a lethal injection or support euthanasia.

Quote:
similarly I will not give a woman a pessary to cause an abortion

Abortions are illegal.

Quote:
I will not cut for stone, even for patients in whom the disease is manifest

Can't operate.

Fair enough.

When did "Do no harm" get thrown out then?

I will fully accept that the Hippocratic Oath needs to be updated in line with technological improvements, but most of the problem is not doctors but nursing and general welfare. I have seen patients deteriorate because they were not fed. Then they become bed bound and too weak to discharge, all because the nurses would not feed the patient.

It's not but it's a small part of it, yet the only bit that the public seem to be aware of. If you look at the excerpts, you'll see no one bothers to swear by it and probably hasn't for the last 30 years. It's a bit like saying "The Bible says 'You shall not murder'", saying "well that's important" and then asking why people don't follow the Bible!

Furthermore, the only people who would have swornt the Oath are doctors. Not other healthcare professionals, nor, crucially, politicians who meddle in the running of the NHS.

Well politicians do not care as they all have private healthcare which seriously undermines their need to maintain the service.

IMO politicians should be forced to use the NHS. If it isn't fit for them to use, it isn't fit for the public.

No arguments from me about that. The same for all public services.
