According to an article in the Telegraph, millions of Britons are not talking to at least one of their neighbours.

Quote:
Feuds over noisy children, overflowing wheelie bins, parking spaces and out of control trees and shrubs were among some of the reasons for the stand-offs. Other grumbles included overhearing neighbours swearing and rowing when out in the garden, and barking dogs. Six in 10 adults are currently not speaking to two neighbours and almost half (46 per cent) admitted they looked the other way if they bumped into certain people who live nearby.

The poll by Swinton found the most common reason to fall out with neighbours was due to them blocking their drive.

I must be one of the luckier ones then. To one side we've got an elderly couple who like to keep themselves to themselves most of the time....that is when the poor old husband isn't getting an ear-bashing from his wife (both are about 90!) and on the other side we have a divorced man in his fifties who's rarely in.

Anybody currently dealing with troublesome neighbours?

We've only got one neighbour. A young married couple with a 3 year old daughter. They have 3 staffies who are inclined towards noisy but because the house is so old and the walls are so thick we rarely hear therm when we're home. On the plus side we always know when strangers are approaching and at least we know they can't complain about the occasional quack-fest from the ducks or the laying clucks of the chickens. We have a good relationship with them, the guy is big into cars so he and Red always have something to chat about over the fence. We've looked after their dogs while they've been on holiday, they've done the same for our menagerie, we exchange Christmas presents and cards etc.

We're very lucky really.

One side are really nice and never had any problems with them. The ones attached to us don't like us because we like music. I swear they don't even own a stereo which I find very strange. When the parents are away the grown up son who still lives at home dares to have music on in the car while driving up to the house. When he has friends over for a BBQ they don't play any music.

My neighbours are no more mental than my own family, so... We happily chat and help each other out.

The people across the street though could really do with a slap; seriously loud parties, kids running riot and nearly getting knocked down, and so on.

We have an old lady on one side, who is lovely, and we get on very well. On the other side we have an older couple who are just fine, however their drug addled 30-something son is an ass. He fell asleep whilst smoking and set fire to their lounge (filling our house with the smell of smoke), he has frequent visits from his own children whom he has no control over - I had strong words with him about their behaviour - and we often hear his denial tantrums when his old man has the temerity to broach the subject of drugs with him.

At our previous address, we got on well enough with all our neighbours; although we were only there for 8 months while house-hunting, so probably didn't hang around long enough to build up any real animosity on either side.

Prior to that we had 14 years in a quiet little cul de sac, with great neighbours on one side. The other side were ok while they were there, but they spent half their time running a pub. Initially it was dreadful, their son thought it was the perfect party pad for a month or two - he finally got the message when I threatened to kick him up and down the street at 3am one Monday morning. Shortly afterwards they let it out to a pleasant enough young couple who were, unfortunately, rather vocal during their romantic dalliances. Other than that, we didn't get a peep out of them.

Pretty lucky here. Some really great neighbours who help out when they can.

The relatively new lot over the road are really noisy though. The kids scream like they're being murdered, and I think they have a parrot or something that wakes me up at dawn and doesn't shut the f up until nightfall.

One side is OK, the other side are best avoided if necessary. Slightly mental, and sadly stupid, couple who really need not to be there. When his wife had a stroke the other year, he went into meltdown. We found out that he wasn't taking his anti psychotics (or taking the whole lot in one go) and was hiding in the roof from "the voices".

Instead, we still have them there, shouting at each other, and every so often a character whom I refer to as "the racist gorilla" (due to an outburst I heard last year) does their gardening.

The cats won't go near them, so that's not a good sign.

We don't really have any neighbours in our current house, which is frankly bloody marvellous, especially considering my penchant for hifi and music at loud volumes.

We've had one set of neighbours for years. Prior to them, we had another set of longstanding neighbours. They have both been great, always chat with the parents etc. Never had any issues.

The other side have been horrendous. We had some good families move in over the years but after the last lot moved out, we had drug dealers - all night parties, random cars coming up, etc. Police weren't interested. A few more random people moved in and out and the latest have been romanians. They've been there for a couple of years now. When they first moved in, our recycling boxes immediately disappeared. They had tonnes of black bags out on the street (maybe 10-15) and were always active. Had to call the environmental agency on them. They were living at least 15 to the (3-bed) house. They used to receive any parcels and then deny receipt which was a PITA. They also used to block our garage. After a few times of me going round and *asking* them to move their truck or give me my package, they've seemed to have settled.

I have great neighbours, they thought I had died as no one had seen me for a few weeks and a cauliflower carcass was rotting in the bin. The neighbours above and below me are a little noisy but nothing I cannot handle. At my previous place the neighbour thought I was trying to steal her cat, even though he would sit on my door step and passers by would knock on the door and as I opened to answer he would run in. All resolved in the end. I have never really had bad neighbours except when I was in council care, and then had junkies and prostitutes as neighbours.

I've never had problems with any neighbour. I've lived in dozens of houses across the UK and Germany and I can honestly say, that I have gotten pn with every neighbour I've had.

The only neighbours I've had a problem with were fat greasy bikers and their rat faced girlfriend.
They were playing thrash metal one night when I got home from work (it was late) and I just wanted a quiet night in before heading to bed.
What my housemates failed to mention was that they'd all been doing cocaine, and so my suggestion that I pop round to ask them to turn it down was met with generous enthusiasm.
Buoyed up by their response (but not their support) I went round and I think I came >this< close to being punched.

Generally, never had a problem with neighbours. Most have been lovely in fact.

We don't have any neighbours where we are now, but in our last place we had one set of neighbours that we got on very well with. Wasn't so keen on everyone else in our courtyard though.
