Not just people from abroad. The Tories apparently have a special team just looking for racist comments from UKIP MEP's and councillors.

Bongoland is not an insult in Tanzania at least.

The sad thing is, his objection is a valid one. He just didn't have the wit to realise that using a phrase like that, regardless of intent, would sideline the point he was trying to make about misappropriated charity.
That said, his argument doesn't justify not sending aid; even if it does underline the fact that much of the aid doesn't reach the intended recipients.

The Tories were very aware of that and actually tried to reduce the corruption impact and restrict the aid to where it could have the greatest bank for your buck. That was why they reduced the aid to India. So he might be a little wide of the mark even if it was a good point some time ago. While the Tories have been cack-handed with many policies this one was right and has so far been handled well. Agreed, it probably works out as significantly cheaper to help people overseas than have them come here and displace a local from a low paid job and us having to keep that person on the dole. It also helps our overseas reputation.

I will accept is amusing but still very racist and condescending.

I rather expect, though, that this notion was as far from his mind as all the other supportive arguments in that article. I expect that, like Lance Corporal Jones’ term “fuzzy-wuzzies”, that the phrase “Bongo Bongo Land” emanates from the pejorative attitude of Empire.

No problem I miss things all the time. That is it perfectly. The problem is that we live in a multicultural nation now and really should be far more aware of the risk to insult. In some respects the "fuzzy wuzzies" of Corporal Jones were a throw back to an even early age of abuse. The British Army in WW2 was filled with people of many nations who fought for us in Asia.

I shall remind you all that Lionel Dunning (no immediate relation), rode a horse named Jungle Bunny in the 1980s. Even then no one batted an eyelid. http://youtu.be/5gx_fsB6v_E(As an aside, I met Jungle Bunny when he was in retirement in the Isle of Wight in the 1990s. Nice horse, I was told he was grumpy, but he seemed OK with me.)
