I literally couldn't finish it. I just didn't care about it enough. The first one was a bit of fun, but this sequel draaaaaaaggged in comparison. I think I quit about half way. Bruce Willis had just turned up.

The first is definitely the better film.

Wall-E + Independence Day + Moon + Portal + La Jetée + Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome + The Matrix (ofc) = Oblivion

Less than the sum of its parts. It's like a bland sci-fi soup, there are no surprises, but just like cream of tomato, you'll sit and finish the bowl.

The Other Guys - Starts off with one of the funniest action sequences I've ever seen, and suddenly becomes one of the unfunniest comedies I've ever seen. Who the hell wants to watch characters go nuclear on each other for no reason? The script's bloody awful with it. I think I lasted 15 minutes at most.

Quite - apart from the awesome sound effects (attributable only to the drones) the rest of the film thoroughly dragged.

I've seen some really poor movies lately - and can not reccomend:
Pusher - typical British gangster/drug caper full of woeful direction and acting
A Good Day To Die Hard - compared to the first two, weak, just weak.
Confucius - too long, too slow and not nearly as good as I hoped it would be
Hansel & Gretel Witch Hunters - plain stupid
Parker - yes, a Statham film - but I usually like Statham films (okay Corey Yuen/Luc Besson films with Statham in) - but this was dire.

Having said that, Garbage Warrior and Bunny and the Bull - both completely different films, are excellent.

I had to turn it off. It got on my nerves.

Elysium.
Not bad at all. I do kind of agree with my mate when he said it couldn't quite decide if it wanted to be a damning social commentary or a straight up action film but still eminently watchable. The guy from District 9 is the best thing in it - he does evil very well. Plus, has the future/sci-fi never heard of health and safety?

Kick Ass 2. If you watched and enjoyed the first one then this is a pretty good sequel. Could really have done with being an 18 but I'm looking at the bluray af the original and it's a 15 as well so maybe I need to re-watch it. Not enough of hit girl. Oh, and if you do go to see it there is a wee bit after the credits.

Saw The Heat the other day.
Not bad for a cheesy chick flick comedy.

Star Trek Into Darkness = Meh.
Jack Reacher = Pfft.

In the same way I've recently taken to digging out an enjoying relics from my music collection, I think I'm going to have to do the same with my movies to regain some faith.

Into Darkness was a massive, really quite lazy yawn-fest. Your latter point, yes older films were better, the real quality, story-telling, acting, characters can now be found in TV series rather than films I think, in terms of mainstream US entertainment anyway.

Watched it last night and after Simon Pegg's defence of the 'JJ flare' I can categorically say he was wrong. It's intrusive, annoying and actually pissed me off a couple of times.

Kiss kiss bang bang - Woeful and has a black heart to go with it, I remember the reviews being full of praise for it just cos Shane Black directed it
