I'd suggest the guards are a big part of the problem too...

They could always remove power points so that there is no where to charge them.

Err.. this may be an obvious question but.. why would someone in prison have a key fob?

I think that the purpose is to be able to get them into the prison and being small they will be harder to find once in.

I would have thought a prisoner needs a car key even less than he needs a mobilephone... I would have thought it was more a case of trademark infringement than anything else, if they are using the logos, I can't see Bentley, BMW etc. Letting them use the logos.

Exactly. A visitor will have their phone removed but could slip this by security. They're a nice shape to hide anally too.

what you need is an 'security beacon' in the visitor's entrance (oh god...). When someone walks though it, any phone they have immediately starts ringing.

Considering rubbish bins in London were able to follow phones...

Only ones with WiFi enabled. These are not smart phones, and with the low metal content they are hard to scan for unless actually switched on.

With then being designed with minimal metal and aerodynamic for insertion it seems like they are designed for prisoners.
