Even if they could bring all that together the TV would need to look like God's own at Apple prices.

Allowing for Apple margins they could still offer a better package if the overall cost of the deals was less than you pay now. If you only wanted one channel it would be a lot cheaper than buying the bundles that are the only option now. How many times have you looked at a satellite or cable TV bundle and only seen one channel in there that you were happy to pay for? Yet you had to take all the other channels as well.

A big difference is the bundles that include your phone and broadband alongside your TV. People take contracts because 'X' a month doesn't seem anywhere near as bad as what Apple will want for a TV. Plus what about everyone else in the house? The living room TV might be kick-ass, but what about the kids? You can't sell TVs the way you do mobile devices.

Most bundles are advertised without mentioning the line rental as every company charges a different amount. Mine is only £5 a month for the landline.

If you add in the usual sky line rental of £14.50 a month on top and the fact that you also need to take a TV package as well before you could pick a sports or movie package and then it all starts to add up and then you have to add broadband as well the. You could easily be spending £70 a month.

If you can get just a apple channel on top of your phone and broadband then you could be paying a lot less. I like watching the NFL but signing up for sky will set me back close to £60 a month so for the season it will cost nearly £300 whereas just adding a NFL game pass for a £100 will save me a lot of money. Especially as I am not interested in the other ports or deals.

I'm pretty sure you're only paying line rental once

You've also got BT and VM doing all sorts of deals... Apple's problem would be individual customers every four years at most if I had to guess. There's not much you can do with TVs in their current form factor for their usual margins that I can see. They could maybe be in with a shot if they time 4K right or something, but even then there's a lot of people who weren't impressed with HD.

I Thought I would do a dummy sale with Sky. to see what you need to get the sports package.

Basic TV bundle £21.50 per month. Free Broadband Lite,
Sky Talk with free Sky Talk weekends, then line rental £14.50 plus £15 set up.
So Monthly cost then goes to £36 a month plus one off cost £15.

Up that to unlimited broadband +£7.50
And a sensible call bundle Talk Anytime UK +£5
So that now becomes £44.75 for 12mths then £48.50

That is before the sport of £22 a month.

So that becomes £62 a month for first 12 months then £69.50.

So for me to switch it would be £744 to watch the NFL on TV and tablet.

I could do that for £5 with my line rental and no call bundle. Add unlimited broadband £15 so £20 per month and £129.99 annually for the NFL game pass including superbowl. So that is £240 for phone and broadband and £129.99 for the NFL. That is £374.01 less than I would pay on Sky. It all depends on what packages you would watch.
