Quote:
The threatening rhetoric from Tehran came in response to a statement by the secretary of state, John Kerry, on Monday that the US would respond to the "undeniable" use of chemical weapons in Syria.

In the strongest signal yet that the US intends to take military action against the Assad regime, Kerry said President Bashar al-Assad's forces had committed a "moral obscenity" against his own people.

"Make no mistake," Kerry said. "President Obama believes there must be accountability for those who would use the world's most heinous weapon against the world's most vulnerable people. Nothing today is more serious, and nothing is receiving more serious scrutiny".

"moral obscenity" - like drone strikes with MASSIVE 'collateral damage'? The deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent people and Obama's own soldiers? Breaking his country's constitution and spying on it wholesale?

The US will probably want to test some things before the Israel vs Iran match kicks off.

I sometimes wonder if the US are more interested in that little event.

They do, apparently 118 or thereabouts but that is not the issue. They are more concerned about them being used by a crazy mullah on them.

What might be possible is a massive redrawing of borders along tribal and religious lines. That will allow the various sects to have their own homelands but that will mean Turkey giving up a chunk of their territory to make a greater Kurdistan along with parts of Iraq and Iran. That might be a harder negotiation. Not impossible as it would make each nation smaller and more homogenous tribally, so much less sectarian violence.

I'm still waiting for Obama to take office, not sure who has been sitting in the White House for the last several years, but Obama said, that once he was in office, the first thing he would do is close Gitmo, he would pull all troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq "and you can take that to the bank."

Well, Syria was always on the "Path to Persia" list, even if the timetable has been stretched a little.

Israeli intelligence 'intercepted Syrian regime talk about chemical attack'

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/a ... mical-talk

Nobody doubts the skills of Israeli intelligence, but nobody doubts their vested interest either

And I loved the bit about shaving your beard due to a chemical attack...

I do wonder why Cameron is so keen for the UK to get involved. Iraq and Afghanistan are still a mess, why are we sticking our noses in elsewhere?

I think that nerve gas is really quite naughty, and I don't think people should get away with using it.

I know you don't like our leaders, and none of you has progressed beyond the nihilism that was cool when we were 17. But seriously, you have to be able to see that there is a moral case for intervention if the guy has gassed civilians, even though we are not perfect.

23% of Germans are in favour of military intervention in Syria, 68% want no military intervention. Of the 23%, 66% of them don't think Germany should get involved.
