I thought that would be the answer :(

I wanted to develop this free application to give people a bit of a laugh, but why should I shell out money when I won't receive a penny in return?

Peter.

This.

The payment sucks - I want to have a go, but I'm not willing to invest in it since I'm pretty sure I'll get bored before I do anything good. Perhaps I could come up with the worlds greatest application, but we'll never know.

Exactly. I can understand the necessity of payment if you are producing a paid application, but anybody should be allowed to develop free applications, provided Apple approve them before publishing.

I could try to get adverts on the application, but I really wanted to make a decent free one :(

It's the kind of one you'd hopefully see in the "Top 25" free applications, which people download for a laugh and probably delete a week later.

Peter.

Is this of any use?

So, doesn't look like I'll be getting a CrackBerry with my new job. I'm "only" the sys admin, so I won't be out of house much, so I won't need one.

I'll have to start thinking about an iPhone again, but will probably get a new camera first (looking at the Canon Ixus 90/95). Thought about an SLR, but 99% of the time I want to take a photo these days, a small compact would be more useful. Add the DSRL to the wish list.

Ended up with a Canon Ixus 110IS, 12.1 mega pixel 32-110mm zoom and also take 720p video. Taking the dog for a walk later, so I'll see how it holds up. Nice, simple and quick to use, nice big screen as well.

Peter, JJ, you are free to create your applications for free. If you have an idea then go ahead and create it. If you really want to publish it is it illegal to share the developer fee? If not then a few people could group together, or form a mini not-quite-a-company group as that may be allowed?

It sucks you have to pay, but I guess Apple have to make money on hosting and such somewhere along the line...

Because you wanted to make people laugh...

And why not charge 50p? The amount of people who will spend 50p on a little game or something is huge, it may get cast aside after a week or two, but people seem to see it as only 50p.

I have just bought my first RPG game. A thing with elves and swords and stuff. It looks quite nice and cost about £1.50 It will keep me amused for hours.

I was thinking that a few people, even from this forum, could club together into a developer group. I can't see how it's any different than one of the developer companies producing an application. From what I can gather on Apple's website, it's $99.00 (About £60.00) to become a developer, so that's only £10.00 each if we found six people interested.

I was led to believe that you are actually required to host your own applications. That may not be the case nowadays, because I'm sure Apple want to ensure users are able to download them quickly and reliably.

I'm not sure whether that's the case though. I certainly wouldn't download a throwaway application even for 59p. I may not be a typical end user though because I am unusually tight when it comes to money!

Peter.

I am quite enjoying the RPG game.

Also I was at a mates BBQ last night and one of the guests asked if those mobile things worked as an Ebook reader. I used it to Google a recommendation then went to the app. store and downloaded Stanza. Access to 100,000 free books there and then. I mean I was gobsmacked (yet again).

Yep, Stanza is supposed to be excellent. It was on MacBreak Weekly's recommended list a while back.

I have just received an email from my car insurer to say I have won a £50.00 iTunes voucher, which will be with me next week. I do vaguely remember this competition when taking out the policy, so I am very pleased indeed.

Hmm, t is called Inotia - Legend Of Feanor

I don't know if that means anything to anyone. It is a bit basic graphically being totally 2D but it is o.k. for those quite moments waiting for my next patient to arrive.
