They are back tracking on a number of key policies. Even the universal credit is showing serious problems. It could be managerial incompetence by senior civil servants or incompetence by ministers or a combination of both. Take your pick.

Universal credit makes sense. It just a case of how to bring it in in a practical manor.

It does but the problem is that there will be people who need additional support such as the disabled.

I thought that was to be included in the universal credit.

There are additions in the ESA. There are two additional bands in the ESA. Though how that will transition to the Universal Credit I have no idea.

The problem is that the whole benifits / tax credit system is so complex that its almost impossible to reform as there are a million and one pressure groups who will jump up and down prtiesting about every change. Also the opposition will naturally spread scare stories to make the goverment look bad (this is irrespective of which party tried to do it)

You do not need the opposition to spread scare stories. The press and charities will also show victims of the changes. It could be simplified but the real issue is to do it thoughtfully with all party support.

But they will all be affected by differing lobbying groups. It should not be impossible to achieve even if it takes some time.
