New Kindle Paperwhite

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00C ... d_i=468294

Quote:
Kindle MatchBook

COMING SOON—For thousands of qualifying books, your past, present, and future print-edition purchases will soon allow you to buy the Kindle edition for $2.99, $1.99, $0.99, or free.

I can't see anything similar on the UK page though :(

Hardly worth me upgrading then.

They'd probably make more money out of me if they did that here. I'd probably buy the paper back and Kindle edition.

Same here. I have bought a lot of books from Amazon so could have lots of kindle versions to download.

I read elsewhere the new HDMI 2 standard and thought it makes sense in terms of future TV's. I never realised it would be out this soon.

I really don’t understand those. They make me think of these:

I think that the market for computers and laptops is saturated and you do not buy one unless you need one. Most people I know have one and they will only get another when they need to. Tablets are something that can be much more useful and I can easily see a need for more than a couple around my home.

Indeed. I won't but a new one until my current one is well and truly dead.
My old one had a list of faults a mile long, but I only got rid of it when it finally refused to turn on at all.

My iMacs could last a long time, but I might want a new one because they look so good.

I think the hybrids are very interesting. Mine is certainly very useful.

I tried a couple of iPads and Android tablets, but they always felt incomplete. The Windows hybrids were the first tablets that made sense for me. What they bring is a complete package in one unit. You have a portable tablet for on the move, with touch apps, plug it into the keyboard dock and you can type like a laptop and plug it into the desktop dock and you have a full, multi-monitor desktop experience.

Additionally you have all your data on one device, so you don't have to wait for it to sync over the internet - assuming you have a connection.

I think that they are a niche market but could fail because they are not great at everything. They clearly have benefits for some, but with an iMac and iPad I get the best of both. I very rarely need access to all my data on my iPad, but can wait till I get back to the desktop if I need it. You do also have the problem of having all your eggs in one basket with a hybrid. If it is stolen you lose everything at the same time.

And when you had an 11" MacBook Pro with retina display and detachable keyboard, which plugged into a Thunderbolt display on your desktop, making the need for an iMac AND an iPad redundant?
