OK so I'm still catching up on the Oscar films of this year. Saw Silver Linigs Playbook last night and loved it. Even blokey liked it too.

Highly recommend it.

8/10

Drive Angry: Easily the second worst film I've ever sat all the way through. Unspeakably terrible

This of course leads to the question:

Cyborg starring Jean-Claude van Damme

I'd say Evita - the Madonna version - but I can't remember if I sat through it all or not. So its The Royal Tenenbaums. Second worst is Boys Don't Cry. I suppose other options I've mentally buried will occur to me later.

I'm in two minds about "No eared rabbit and two eared chick" (Keinohrhase und Zweiohrküken), it is an animation based on the two film from Til Schweiger, where the no eared rabbit and two eared chick are soft toys made by a child in the film. The original films are funny and heart warming. The previews of the animated film are funny, but I'm wondering how much they are aimed purely at kids, or whether it has a Disney element that will appeal to all age groups...

Mine: A.I. Artificial Intelligence

But only because I couldn't make it all the way through The Happening

Honourable mentions to Die Another Day, Pirates of the Caribbean At World's End, and Scanners.

Saw Killing Them Softly at the weekend. One of those films that leaves you thinking as the credits roll. Worth watching if not only to see James Gandolfini in one of his last roles.

Safe House - Got halfway through it and there was a scene so dumb I just knew there would be more like it... gave up. It didn't help that it's one of these thrillers with shaky cam and editing by someone who's drunk too much Red Bull.

Company of Heroes - No idea how it stacks up against the game, but anyone could watch it... It just wasn't good enough for me to care about finishing it :|

Star Trek: Into Darkness - Again, I'm pretty ignorant of Trek, but it felt like they were crowbarring in a lot of references. The film itself is just OK cos anyone who's ever seen a handful of films will recognise the telegraphed plot points... The final third rather jars with the preceding scenes in terms of handling (in every way), and I wouldn't be surprised if there's been rewrites.

You're left with slight character progression and geek references really. Nothing that leaves you hopeful for/wanting a sequel :(

Oh... lens flare haters should avoid it like the plague.

Yep worse than Paul Greengrass films in terms of cinematography.

Evil Dead reboot - Got half an hour in and switched it off. Not scary, not funny, not a likable character. Oh, and dumb with it.

Taken 2 - watchable but has none of the original's oomph, could be any thriller really.

Someone else said that recently. I'll get round to it.

I want to see Le Week-End

It's had very good reviews. Plus no comic book hero or action star in sight. My kind of film!

Olympus Has Fallen - Worth a watch, probably as close as we'll ever get to an actual Die Hard film again.
