Two sets isn't an option. I've been doing since research that suggests all round winters is certainly an option as what you lose in braking distance in the summer is not as significant as what you lose if you run summers in the winter. Also some "all season" tyres are available so that could be an option.

I got mine from Tyre Shopper, set of 4 tyres with a small discount with one of those voucher codes from http://www.voucherbox.co.uk/...

But really, I don't think you need two sets... They do say that winter tyres aren't great in summer, but it's not like we get actually hot weather over here

Okay guys and gals - thread resurrection

57 plate Astra 1.4 Energy on 205/55R16

Which summer tyres do I buy?

Priorities are (in descending order):

  1. Wet Braking
  2. Dry Braking
  3. Noise

I'd probably look at something like

http://camskill.co.uk/m62b0s291p111632/ ... se%3A_71dB
http://camskill.co.uk/m62b0s291p109495/ ... se%3A_68dB
http://camskill.co.uk/m62b0s291p109491/ ... se%3A_68dB

Last 2 are pretty much identical
I'd suggest what I have (Falken) but they are much more dry tyres (can get a nasty bit of sudden oversteer on roundabouts in the heavy wet with them)

Thanks for that - I pretty much had it narrowed down to the last two you linked to.

Hmm... now where to get them from?

I'd just go with Camskill - I'd be surprised if you'll find them cheaper elsewhere.

I have Dunlop Street Response all-season tyres and they are well good. Not much experience with other brands other than the [LIFTED] ones that came with my car.
http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Dunlo ... sponse.htm

wet grip is fantastic, perfect for this January/February.

I used Tyres on the Drive dot com, they came to my office car park and fitted 4 on my lunch break, I drove home and it was like getting in a new car.

Thread resurrection (again).

I left the Generals on for a few months but I got a nail in the nearside front which meant I had to buy a new tyre. I wasn't impressed with the Generals so I got a new set of Dunlop Sport Blue Response.

They're chuffing brilliant, frankly. Noise is noticeably lower and fuel efficiency has increased by about 5mpg. The only bad thing I've found is the overly stiff turn-in but, seeing as it's an Astra and not a GT86, I'll let that go.

I've switched from Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres (grippy but very soft walled and the car felt "floaty" under pressure) to Michelin pilot super sports (feels grippier still but now firm and responsive).

In my experience, anything sporty from Michelin grips almost as well as the cheaper, but more popular with the "enthusiast" set (Toyo/Vredestein/Goodyear etc.) in the dry, but better in the wet and lasts WAAAY longer. The compromise is they usually cost a fair bit more. My favourites were always the Pilot Exalto 2s, but that was years ago.

I used to love the Pilot Sport 2.

I have the original Michelin's on my Citroen. I've just bought a set of "unbranded" Continental winter tyres. 400€ for the set, including rims.

Resurrection again! I need some help because my google-fu is very weak indeed.

I'm after somewhere decent in the Northampton area that does a "Tyre Hotel" service (i.e. storing your off-season set). I'm also after a full set of either:

  • Goodyear UltraGrip Performance Gen-1
  • Dunlop Winter Sport 5
  • Continental ContiWinterContact TS 850

Anybody help?

www.mytyres.co.uk appear to have them all for sale.

Tyre Leader will be cheaper, but make sure you're ordering this years models as some of them are stored for a while in Germany/Poland before sale. You don't want old ones.

I previously ordered everything from mytyres, but they're all German companies masquerading with .co.uk domains anyway, so may as well have the cheapest.

I was about to recommend Nokian, but then I remember that my requirements are much more snow orientated than the average Brit.
