Talking of countries I'm going through a bit of a Nordic phase. Currently reading Mercy by Jussi Adler-Olsen. Really enjoying it.

Killing Hope - Cop thriller from the perspective of the cop, get the sample from Amazon NOW since it's on sale for 99p for a few days, then buy it if you like it. It's very easy to read and doesn't muck about so far.

I'm half way through that Killing Hope book and it's taken a turn for the stupid - now absolutely everyone is a 1980s movie stereotype. WTF?!
I'm really sick of what I read and watch going to mush at the half way point, it seems to be laziness combined with stretching the original concept to breaking point. Lack of faith too I suspect.

Reading the second Harry Hole book by Jo Nesbo. I wish my brain work that well when alcohol addled.

Just received the new Donna Tartt book, but it's 750 pages. I don't have time to read a novel that big this year unless it's bad enough to put down

You'll quickly see how they butchered the story and how much they have left out. Say hi to Tom Bombadil for me.

The latest Dexter book. The last few books have been quite a bit different in tone from the TV series and all the better for it. There was a point (around season 4) when the TV show had got more interesting and complex than the books.

Just started the hydrogen sonata by Iain m banks. I deliberated for a long time about starting it, because once I've read it, I've read it and there will no longer be any unread Iain m banks books out there for me.

I thought that Peter Jackson did a really good job in editing the book to maintain the narrative and yet prune out the substantial amounts of waffle in the book. That included elemental yokel Tom Bombadil IMO, though I know a lot of fans like the character. Ironically I have not bothered with the Hobbit movie because of all the stuff that's been added.

Just finished the second book of the Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb. I'm reading them borrowed from a friend and I didn't think I'd enjoy them, but there's a touch of the 'Name of the Wind's about them and I'm devouring them at the rate of one a day over the weekend. Book 2 is 751 pages and I started it yesterday afternoon. Shame I have to go back to work tomorrow, that'll cramp my 'finishing Book 3' style, but I'll get a good long go at it this evening

Try some Neal Asher instead. He may not be quite as good a writer as Iain Banks, but I far prefer his "universe building" and to me The Polity ia way more believable than The Culture as an AI controlled system.

Went a bit mad... Bought the ultimate guide to Iron Man, a Queen coffee table book, and Batman, Superman and Avengers annuals in The Works shop. Got my eye on a Bruce Lee coffee table book now too
