its amazingly done... I wouldnt have a clue where to start, but while its well made, and a good idea, I'm not a fan of the result either. dunno why, it just doesnt quite fit.

Is it because it's not black and red?

It's beautifully executed. I keep expecting the monitor to look around, and then the whole thing hop off to the side with the mouse scuttling along behind. I think it would be better as part of a marketing campaign than a logo. It's too complex to go in the corner of a website. So far, I genuinely like JV's PCpro rip-off the best! Red and Black is my favourite colour combo too. Even my shed is done with that scheme

" A logo is small, and if you scale that down the 404 will become obsolete.

Firstly, a professional design would be great - unfair advantage? I think the competition element has almost dissolved, seems there is a high degree of co-operation appearing. Someone posts a design, someone else takes it & adds / suggests improvements to it (open source logos?) - hopefully by the end we'll have a good logo that fits the site & everyone can relate to So as a pro designer, how about something for us to be starting with, Heather? Other than that - totally agree with you, either not having elements from one OS, or at least try for an even balance of all three (3?) systems. For sure - That goes for Clip Art too

Everyone's doing a good job without me. What might be an idea, though, is - if it's needed - the final chosen design is worked up "professionally".

Nice, but it might be more difficult to reproduce on a t-shirt - how might it look without the shadows & scaled up - or down? Also, their needs to be a clearly identifiable 'techy' appearance. As sapro has said, the logo may (will?) need to accommodate this whole site as well as the forum Although, with this design, and a few others, the 'It's our forum' could be removed for other parts of the site easily enough

In response to some feedback, a couple more colour options then (then I'm stopping)... Original Blue colour: And in Red: And in Green (which I quite like): I too wasn't sure how it would look at a smaller size either, so just plopped these three into the masthead area - of course, it depends how customisable the forum software is (Dennis said it was impossible to change the layout, but I suspect you can do a bit more than they'd have us believe!). Anyway, see what you think... Original blue colour scheme: And in Red: And finally in Green: Not sure about the strap line - the forums for any platform - is that a bit w*nky? Just thought it needed something to cover all people's choice of OS. Right, that's me done. I tend to agree with Heather, as we do this for a living it's not really fair on others who don't. That said, if anyone wants me to tweak their designs, I'd be willing to help out if you have a good idea behind it. PM me and I'll see what I can do - looking like a fairly easy week at work so might be able to squeeze one in for someone (if you pardon the expression!).

Now you've done three variants of colour, you have me thinking... could the logo change between variants on, say a page refresh?

Steve, Regardless of the unfair advantage I really like the above designs. Infact I've enjoyed looking at (nearly) all the entrants, still interested to see what comes too, good work all.

I don't see why not, though I wouldn't know exactly how that's done (Javascript? Server-side scripts?). What are you thinking, Aqua blue for the Mac side, maybe Red for Linux, maybe green for PC, I dunno maybe a new colour for The Meeting Place? Not sure whether the forum software allows for this, but I wouldn't have a problem - it's worth putting it to the vote I guess. For what it's worth, I like prof's retro classified ad - not sure why, it just makes me smile that's all.
