Ender's Game

The acting was fairly good and the special effects were very well done. I haven't read the book, so I can't comment on how true to the story they were, but I listen to TWiT a lot and Leo was going on about reading the book, because there is twist in the story line.

For me and my fiancé, we both saw all the "twists" coming long before they were shown. I don't know whether the story has been dumbed down for the cinema or whether it is the same in the book, but it is a shame, it took some of the suspense and mystery out of the film. Saying that, it is still a good sci-fi romp and worth watching.

Filth

James McAvoy is on top form. Not having read the book I didn't know what was coming but there are a couple of good twists in there. Also, something of a rarity these days in that it's actually an 18 certificate (justifiably so)
My only major criticism is that it was a bit confused about when it was set. I'm going to assume it's a contemporary of Shallow Grave and Train Spotting but I'm sure I spotted the odd TFT in there which wouldn't have been available at the time.

8/10

Maybe it's just me, but increasingly I find I haven't a clue when a film's set, whether it's because the story doesn't make it clear or the production's a bit crap! It's even worse with a character like Wolverine, for instance, who defies time and has been in multiple films...

We're The Millers - Starts off promisingly and has some good moments, then you realise that it's just gonna be drawn out with a laugh every ten minutes at best.

Went to the cinema yesterday. I can thoroughly recommend Captain Phillips. Very good film.

Green Lantern - Tried watching it again, but when a film's shot in the dark so that the CGI doesn't give you the equivalent of an ice cream headache... The thing is it had a lot of potential; the action scenes that aren't super-reliant on CGI are as good as it gets these days, the characters have a lot of heart and so on. It's all for nothing though when a villain with no impact whatsoever is made even worse with ridiculously fast editing to hide the super-shininess.

Gangster Squad - It's a straight to video movie made with a Hollywood budget, it veers wildly from uber-violence to comedy in one sequence, and most of the cast are hamming it up regardless of the scene. It's more like Dick Tracey than anything to be taken seriously!

Gravity is a decent watch. Not essential but a good enough 3 out of 5. The 3D worked really well I thought, not in your face but quite subtle and added a nice depth.

Red 2 - Good fun until it reaches the halfway point: I'm utterly sick of that happening in films. This BS of dragging films out for an extra 30m+ needs to stop.

I enjoyed it but my bf wasn't impressed that all the action was shown in the trailer. Agreed the 3D was excellent.

Killing Them Softly - A very lame attempt at merging a thriller and a comedy. Thinks it's above it all cos it uses real-life political broadcasts as part of the soundtrack, and yes, it's as annoying as that sounds. Somehow someone got Brad Pitt and a few recognisable actors to star in what should have been an independent movie that went nowhere.

This film doesn't even drag things out but it's still crap lol.

Cyborg - I'm not even sure that would be watchable if you were steaming drunk.

Chronicle - For the most part it's a good film, it's just that come the finale I wasn't invested in the characters enough for it to have the impact it should have achieved.

Ghosts of Mars - Too cheap and nasty to bother finishing.
