You may have already seen this on the news, but around 200,000 of these coins have been produced without a date on them. This means that they are the first undated coins in over 300 years.

The London Mint Office (Clicky) is offering £50.00 in return for the coin, however they are selling for much more on eBay. One sold last night for £5800.00 on eBay, but this was an unusually high value.



These must be of the new design and not feature a date on either side, as per the above photo. When they changed over to the new design, the date moved from the "Tails" side to the "Heads" side.

I've been through every coin I own and don't have one, unfortunately.

The average selling price for these on eBay is around £200.00, so it's definitely worth a look!

Some naughty people are trying to sell the old design coins by saying that there isn't a date on the "Heads" side. Of course not, because this style of coin featured them on the "Tails" side. The amount of people who are bidding for them is amazing.

You'd underestimate how many bloody coin collectors there are! MOst of them are bankers!

When the new designs came out I bought a set of uncirculated coins in a presentation case (because I liked the design, not because I'm a coin collector). I just checked in case the 20p was missing the date - seeing as it's mounted in a sealed case it would have been worth more - but sadly it's properly minted.

Oh well. There go my dreams of numismatic wealth.

On another forum someone's cleaner found one and sold it to someone for £20.

When I bought a few bits and pieces from Morrisons today, I asked for my change in 20p pieces. I have checked every coin and they're all dated

The amount of people selling regular coins on eBay is unbelievable.

For example, this item is currently at £21.00, but it is just a regular 20p piece with no more value than that. In fact, I have hundreds of identical coins to this in a jar.

This is an old design coin, where the date featured on the "Tails" side. Does it surprise you to learn that, as a consequence, there is no date on the "Heads" sign?

The seller is just being very creative with the wording!

I'm clearly missing a trick here, but I just couldn't sell 20 pence coins for £20 guilt-free!

I could if it were an undated coin due to the minting error, however I certainly could not sell a regular 20p piece and rely on peoples' greed to sell the item for 100x its real value.

You know..

This could all be a scam. I wonder what the odds are that the mint has massively over-produced in 20p pieces (as oppose to say 10p pieces) and just wants everyone to get as many of them out of the money 'pool' as soon as possible? Up and down the land, people have been asking for their change in 20p pieces all day. How many of them do you think are now sat in purses or pockets rather than being sat in banks' cash reserves?

I reckon £50 easy there, and if you list it honestly you could protect from paypal
