Interesting, that certainly a move forward from the reports at the weekend that MS and Google were greener, because Apple's "green" data centers until now have only been green due to them buying carbon credits to offset their use of traditional energy sources.

With MS moving away from data center level fuel cells to rack based fuel cells (increased efficiency, because not so much energy is lost during transmission), the future certainly looks interesting.

Indeed. Aside from the issue of domestic power generation, there's surely more progress to be made in furnishing big hungry commercial facilities with clean power. At that level, you get economies of scale that make it much more justifiable.

Not just economies of scale. They also can effectively lock in a permanent price cap for their energy.
