My Spotify playlist has been abused and it still won't have made any real money for even big name artists.

Even the big name artists are not making a lot of money from Spotify. Its less than what they would get from just the UK royalties for appearing on a "Now..." compilation, with potential for a lot more from combined sales from every other countries sales of the compilation CD. I think the real problem will come if it starts to erode CD sales. If people rent their music rather than buy they could pay a lot less overall for their music which will ultimately hurt the artists. The only way that they can benefit is if it gets them new fans who then buy merchandise and go to their concerts.

It's the labels and rights groups the artists need to speak to - the consumer can go almost anywhere they like these days. As Barry Norman apparently never said, 'And why not?'

I suspect that much of the Spotify revenue gets swallowed up in Labels overheads somewhere.
