I think that they fear mobile gaming more than anything else. A console will cost hundreds of millions to develop and there are few who can come in and upset the console market.

Mobile gaming only works for a select few developers by it's very nature. Though it does stand a far better chance if the games port so that you're not relying on getting noticed in just the app stores. But even then...

Yes but look at the success of Angry Birds. There are others who do seem to do well in the mobile games market.

They're few and far between in the grand scheme of things though, christ, even in their own market. I don't know a single person who buys anything other than the hyped/word of mouth games. When your games are 69p and you're only seeing a fraction of that after development costs and time... It's fine if you're one of the few who get lucky or you're EA or someone, but I seriously doubt it's sustainable long-term.

I have looked for apps based on the topic, but I will admit I get most hints from reviews or comments. The vast majority of developers might not get rich from developing a game but they might learn skills which could be useful as an app developer for a commercial company who might want an app of some kind.

I see Bit-Tech are recommending the PS4 over the Xbox One as a gaming system.

Just about everywhere is, the only reason I'd maybe choose an Xbox was if I'd just bought a Live subscription!

Each of the console manufacturers want exclusive deals or not to be on the wrong end of an exclusivity deal. There are benefits in that they can combine marketing for both consoles. Against that developers might be able to get a better deal in terms of licensing or promotion by the console during the exclusive period. If they gave Sony a one month exclusive deal then Sony might have to keep it in its front page of its online store for that period. The Microsoft might have to follow on with a similar "Now on Xbox" deal to get the game on their machine.

Microsoft 'not aware of any surveillance activity' on Xbox Live

It really pisses me off that it's so easy for them to just invade innocent people's privacy on the off-chance they'll find something.

The prank message, originated on the 4Chan website, falsely claims to enable the new console to play games made for its predecessor - the XBox 360.

If the consoles actually had some backward compatibility which is what consumers would want anyway then this would be unnecessary.

'consumers' as a rule don't want it. A percentage do, but it's far, far from the majority. The bare fact is backwards compatibility matters for about the first six months of a console's lifespan, then the vast majority of owners never use it again. Adding an extra layer of - pretty hard to code for, especially in the PS3's case - functionality most users don't consider a deal breaker is something no commercial enterprise is going to entertain.

I must be one of the minority. I still play old PS2 and Xbox games, though not too often. Though I held off buying a PS3 until I found enough games that I wanted to buy. Not finding them I still have not bought a PS3. By having that backward capability I might have actually bought one.
