I've had a chance to read this now and was intrigued by the spat with Morrison (I'd no idea), here's a potentially good jumping in point that I'll read in full later

http://comicsbeat.com/alan-moore-and-su ... osecution/

Regarding his hatred of superheroes, I think he's looking at it with more than a hint of nostalgia - even in his day there was a total mixture of commercialisation and current politics, especially with some individual DC characters (Green Arrow and Lantern, his own Swamp Thing work!), and Marvel made a very successful company out of approaching societal problems in an exciting way and continues to do so. Christ, if you pick up a comic of almost any description now you'll see some edgy humour at the very least. It's quite obvious from the letters pages too that the readership spans from kids to men in their 70s who will have almost certainly read Moore's work in that field! That's why it seems a bit facetious for him to appear to be worried now.

I'll have to get around to reading all of this later, but as a writer Moore will likely have been a voracious reader of comics and 'proper' books from childhood. Whenever you read a book about writing fiction (particularly, say, Stephen King's superb 'On Writing'), the authors almost always say that to be a writer you have to be a reader. And you have to read a lot. That's all stored in the writing section of the brain and it's from there you draw ideas and make connections. If you're writing detective stories you have to know the conventions of the story form whether you follow them or not. It may well be that 'Superfolks' is an influence on Moore but so are a thousand other things and I think Morrison was just trying to be Mr Angry yet again. I've heard and read interviews with Morrison and he seems to be trying to bring the comics he writes back into line with ones he read back in the 60's at some level. Everybody has creative influences.

Reading the article the one thing that sprang to mind wasn't Miracleman but The Incredibles :)

I wanna read both Superfolks and Marvelman now  , I'm thinking Marvelman first so I can enjoy it more

I can believe the bit about the reading to learn to write; been doing that a bit myself recently, vague notions of putting something out on Amazon in the crime genre after someone else edits it. We'll see...

Yeah, I've seen Morrison imply that he wants to play it old-skool, but I only ever see that in the central concepts of his arcs, never the execution (and we're talking decades of work now). Morrison reminds me of those film directors who have two good movies in them but have gotten away with convoluted/utter bollocks ever since.

A look on amazon reveals that someone is trying to sell Moore's Miracleman/Marvelman issue 15 for £200!! I hope my copy is still in very good condition. Ker-ching!

(Sorry if that's an enormo picture, on my phone here)

Must find out where the writer is actually from lmao.

For countless issues all they've did is bicker without actually having an argument... I suspect the production of this comic is very 'best we could do, Guv.' :(

I merely lolled at the fact that I immediately thought "He-man" even though all I could see at that point was his right leg.

:D

They're certainly not afraid to show you bits of Teela...

I just wish it could get it's act together; it's one of these comics where the artists and writers seem to change every issue :(
