Equally, some kids are hostages one way or another to crap marriages. My mother should have caved my father's skull in decades ago...

Not to mention I know people who were perfectly happy for years until they just split - that would have been much worse if they'd been married, especially with kids.

If marriage works for you, great, but it's not really something you can promote! And in this sense it's being done politically, which is hardly what it's about!

I think that this is more an assault on the 'breeders'. It is not as if it will get you a council flat any longer.

It's interesting, because today the Guardian also ran an article about fathers who have to pay children support to their ex wives and cannot see their children despite court orders because these are not enforceable. (I'll try to find the source later)
