After a long illness and a short stay in a lovely hospice, JJW009 lost his fight against cancer this afternoon.
He will be sorely and sadly missed

Saw him on Friday and he was very seriously unwell, I'm very glad his suffering didn't continue much longer.

Woah. That genuinely brings you up short. I'm really sorry to hear it. I liked JJ, even though I didn't actually even know his real name.

Such a shame :(

I can't quite comprehend this.
He was a really great guy and I'm seriously sat here in stunned shock.

Indeed. When I saw the thread title I was dumbfounded.

Goodbye JJW009, you will be missed.

Just to give you all a bit more of the picture, Jason was diagnosed with cancer in July of last year (2012). At the time of diagnosis, one entire kidney was just one huge lump of cancer, and it had already spread to other parts of his body. The Doctors at the time did not expect him to even last as long as that Christmas, but clearly was able to fight a lot harder than expected. I got to go up and see him on Friday, and he really was just the shell of the man we used to know, both very gaunt and hallucinating quite badly at times. For someone who had had such a sharp and agile mind it was very difficult to see, and in the lucid moments the frustration was very clear to see.

I did ask him then about posting something on here to let everyone know what was going on, and he said that whilst ultimately it really didn't matter, it was nice to have somewhere to go where he wasn't "the sick guy". I'm just very glad to know that he went peacefully (he basically didn't ever wake up this morning, and died this afternoon).

Added note to please keep KW (Jeremy) in your thoughts, he and JJ have been best friends since primary school and always lived just down the street from each other. He's helped and nurtured JJ through this whole thing and was there this afternoon when JJ finally went to sleep. He's having such a horrible day so any additional thoughts you can send his way would be much appreciated xx

Thoughts with anyone who was close to him; I only knew him via his online presence but I enjoyed our interaction.
I'm raising an ale this evening for him.

Strikes me that we're living in an age when we can create animations with atoms, but we're still at the mercy of cancer. A lot of people I know have suddenly lost relatives or have beaten cancer themselves recently. Makes me kind of angry that it's still a thing.

Anyway, KW, you're in my thoughts too. Hope you're ok.
