It is an embarrassment but the investment managers were trying to maximise the returns for the charity.

They do go against what the charity work covers, so I think they’d see it as more than an embarrassment. I doubt very much that someone at Comic Relief said “we should invest in guns and stuff because money”. If they did, then that’s a stackable offence and a massive headache for the charity’s workers.

No more embarrassing than the CofE’s Wonga connections though. Just tell the fund managers to use ethical sources in their money growing schemes.

This is very similar to the CoE Wonga investment, the investment managers did not follow the guidelines of their client. In each case neither the CoE or Comic Relief would have authorised such investments.
