Rise of the Planet of the Apes - it's decent but very hamstrung by the fact it's clearly just an introduction. James Franco looks like he's passively smoking cannabis as usual.

I enjoyed it a lot. More interested in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes as a result.

There was nobody to cling to in it for me, Caesar's quite the acheivement in every sense but still CGI at the end of the day.

Body of Lies - Quite good. Despite the outcome the ending felt a little contrived though, which may or may not be because it's a book adaptation. Definitely worth a watch, and it sh1ts all over Zero Drama Turkey.

This Means War - as bad as every other McG film.

The Raven - You'd think John Cussack could make a character likeable, wouldn't you? A boring procedural's bad enough, but a pretentious one is even worse.

George A Romero's Survival of the dead.

Poor.

The Mangler.

No wonder Tobe Hooper's directorial career went down the toilet...this was truly awful. Ted Levine gives an appalling mumbling performance as the detective and Robert Englund provides one that would be more at home in a pantomime. Surprisingly gruesome though.

The Hobbit: Part 2 - Hobbit Harder.
(I saw the 24fps 3D version.)
8 out of 10 I reckon.
Smaug is beautiful.
Dwarves aren't quite so painful as the first one, mainly because they more or less keep Jimmy Nesbitt in the background and there's far less singing.
Gandalf kicks some ass.
All elves are ninjas, it appears.
My only complaint? Some questionable CGI during the barrel sequence, but that's about it.

Worth a watch.

I have to ask, what the flogging hell was Legolas doing in the Hobbit?

Peter Jackson is reinterpreting the story quite bit.

I see 47 Ronin is getting panned - it was obvious just from the trailer that it had no ideas of it's own.

It's based on a widely regarded folklore tale, of course the ideas aren't original.

To be fair, the film has only opened in the Asian continents and by the sounds of it the marketing department has clearly no idea on how to handle the film.

No, I mean it's nicking scenes and styles from other films (300, Lord of the Rings). I'm not surprised if they haven't known how to market it - it looks like someone asked the internet what it wanted in a film

No, I think that was Machete 2.

And Lord of the Rings didn't rip off other high fantasy films that came before it? *raises eyebrow in a quizzical manner*

I actually want to see 47 Ronin, just like I want to see Man of Tai-Chi.
Just 'cause a film has a [LIFTED] trailer doesn't mean it's a [LIFTED] film. There's so many good trailers out there that have [LIFTED] films that the balance must work the other way as well.
Keep an open mind, listen to word of mouth. (8+)

I'm not saying LOTR didn't 'borrow', I'm saying it looks like 47 Ronin's been 'borrowing' like it's going out of fashion. If only...

Regarding trailers I've found my instincts to be quite good :| , we actually saw the trailer for 47 Ronin in the cinema.

I've gone to the cinema just for the sake of it many a time - I always go in open-minded or with really low expectations
