First look: Sharp 85-inch 8K glasses-free 3D TV

http://www.techradar.com/news/televisio ... 3d-1214341

I just have no desire to watch anything in 3D - I'm either interested in a show or I'm not, anything else is likely to just be a distraction.

I will admit that while I thought that 3D TV was a fad when I had the chance to see it in a store I was sort of blown away. Normally with the red green glasses it takes me ages to adjust to the 3D image. With the active glasses it was instant for me. Though without having a decent amount of content on Freeview it did become sort of useless. I think I would be more open to the idea than I was before.

It's just a gimmick to me, and not a very impressive one at that.

I never went ahead and bought one. It was the lack of free content that deterred me.

There was one in the Natural History Museum showing extracts from some Sky/Attenborough thing about the museum. As long as you were in one of the 3D sweet spots, the 3D worked pretty well. Move your head to one side, and the effect inverted - very odd. No obvious interlacing. Every 3D set I have tried with goggles seems to have horrendous interlacing in the image, and is significantly darker. This one did none of those things.

I’m still not interested in a 3D set, but one that does the effect well without glasses and having to hold your head in a specific way would be higher up the list. I could, at least, show off my 3D photos on it.

At most I'd want a detachable screen and standing function, but that's it.

I can't imagine that'll help much when you actually need to log-in somewhere with what we now know the NSA is capable of :?

And 21:9 as well. This actually makes more sense than many others.

As it is optimised for 2.35 and that is wider than 21:9 it should be perfect. I only dread the cost.
